I think the worst part is how much of it is promoted with food. (and then we wonder why we're so obese) Happy Birthday! CAKE! Happy Easter! CANDY! Happy Halloween! CANDY! Happy Thanksgiving! BIG MEAL Merry Christmas! CANDY! Happy Valentines Day! CANDY Happy Anniversary! FANCY MEAL!
That’s part of the issue for me too. Big meal on all of the above days. I try to stay on a very healthy diet and it kills me.
Happy Earth Day @Xerobull. Did you leave out milk and cookies for the sanitation workers that pick up your recycling?
Oh, I’m aware. My wife busted out her Earth Day T-shirt today. The trash guys probably hate me. We’re big recyclers and we have a full-sized trash can just for recycling that we fill up weekly. I do always smile and wave at them, though.
My wife LOVES decorating for Christmas. She goes to the nutcracker market every year and when she gets home, that's when she starts. I get everything out of the attic and she takes it from there. I also do the outside lights, but I have a pretty good system in place for that. I also decorate the yard for Halloween, but that's actually pretty fun. I kind of get off when I see cars or people stop and look.
best part about being single after ~30 years with my Ex is I no longer have to do any of that holiday mess. The only reason I even had a tree this year was because my kids were coming to visit and I could buy a permit from the National Forest Service for $10 to harvest my own 10ft tree from right around the corner. (channeling my inner Griswold) It was decorated with 2 strands of white lights with a single metal Zia attached to the tip. It was taken down the day after, Cut up and piled on the wood pile, and Ill enjoy it's warmth next winter. I always liked halloween decorations but its not something I'd do on my own, and I don't get any trick or treaters at my house so no reason to go through the effort.
I used to work for a woman who loved to decorate the office. It started with Christmas, but expanded from there. We made fun of her when she decorated for presidents day. To her credit she took the hint and stopped after that. Probably we crushed her spirit a bit, though.
