It still doesn't make it right. The Interstate Commerce Clause should not (but will) affect mar1juana use in one state since it willl be grown in state sold in state and actullay illegal for interstate commerce to occur. If Bork was on the bench, he'd protect the right of people to vote for what they want to do. Being able to customize your government (at the state level) to meet one's needs/wants has been something democrats have fought long and hard against. I am against legalizing mar1juana in Texas, but could care less what is done in Nevada. Damn Shreveport!!!!! I flipflop on what the ruling should be for this case, but it opened the door for a lot of other breaches of States and Individual rights (since the loss of states rights causes a loss of individual rights).
You know, if mar1juana were legal, you wouldn't 1. Get arrested. 2. Lose your driver's license. 3. Get kicked out of school 4. Hang out with drug dealers, because your new dealer (7-11 and Stop-n-Go) would sell gas and snack foods as opposed to the cocaine and heroine that your old dealer used to sell.
It's about freakin time one of the fifty states stepped up and decided to do something about one of the most ill-guided laws this country has had to endure. I applaud the citizens of Nevada for finally realizing that mar1juana laws are unjust and a waste of government's time and money. Hopefully, this referendum will pass and Nevada will set a good example for the rest of the United States to follow. -Turbo
I understand that pot is illegal. That's fine. It's stupid, but whatever. But, you have an incredibly stereotypical view of the average pot smoker. I have never smoked weed in my life. I don't drink. Yet, I've known some brilliantly intellegent people who do and I've met complete dumbasses who don't. Besides, if you REALLY want to criticize people who smoke pot, you better also go after the alcohol drinkers because alcohol is far more addictive and damaging to your health than mar1juana will ever be. Smoking pot doesn't turn people into Cheech and Chong automatically.
if Nevada legalizes pot, people will just end up wasting all of their time and not do anything creative! Well, see you guys. I need to lurk the rockets forum for a little while. Maybe I'll go over to my friends house to play soccer on the psII. God that guy makes the best home brew.
That was a joy to read. It is so true. So much violence would be prevented if all drugs were legalized, but at least the legalization of pot would save the police valuable time, and save space in overcrowded prisons. F*** I hate anti-drug laws!
All of this is interesting, but nothing will really change unless the independents start taking over. The republicans don't believe it's okay and the democrats have to pretend that they don't think it's okay. On issues such as this, I find the Libertarians' common sense approach intriguing. Unfortunately they're otherwise a bunch of weirdos... so I wouldn't expect too much from all of this.
i wasn't clear...i'm not saying i agree with the outcome of New Deal legislation and its effect on Constitutional interpretation at all!!! I don't, for the most part. But, in this case, that pesky Constitutional interpretation comes back and bites those who support it consitently for the nationalization of every other issue...those who otherwise roll their eyes at the very mention of states' rights. i have no problem with states being the ultimate arbitrer on this issue...most criminal law has traditionally been left to the states. i wish it were still so...the inconsistency of liberals on this issue is laughable to me..i don't mean that to disparage my left-leaning friends here..but i had law professors who would get so tongue-tied on these issues it was hilarious.
