Why are folks still concerned about this? The Knicks are 21-15 and in 2nd place behind Boston in their division. The Rockets WILL finish off worse than the Knicks. Unless I am overlooking something we won't be swapping picks.

Without Melo then they are one Amare knee injury from becoming a lottery team. You're right about the 2011 swap but the 2012 pick might still be in play either for us to use or in a trade package, the better the pick is the better chance of somethign happening.

    I would observe two things.

    1. We didn't get good role players with Yao and TMac.
    2. The Miami trio was able to plausibly work because the Superfriends were willing to take paycuts in order to get people around them. Amare is definitely about getting the money, Melo probably is, and I don't know about CP3. Furthermore, the Superfriends are better. I'm not sure about New Jersey's future, but a Paul-Melo-Amare trio would just create a poor man's Miami.

Randolph and Chandler are parts the Rockets would definitely be interested in.

Can we work Scola into this deal somehow?

hmm...no hating on scola, but I'd rather have the capspace, lol

The cap space to to sign who? The whole fantasy of using cap space to sign marquee players like drugs to fans. The odds of the Rockets signing a FA equal to Scola next summer if they were free of his contract is small.

If Scola is traded, the Rockets better get great draft picks and a very promising young player. Otherwise, all getting rid of Scola would do is make them a bottom 10 team. He's the MVP of the Rockets by a mile.

Ok, name me one guy who is a FA next season and will be able to give you the 19 pts and 8 rebs on 50% FG which Scola does for 9M a year.

What's the point of clearing capspace when the guys you will sign is inferior?

You forgot the main reason: Health. If Tmac and Yao had no health issues like LBJ and Bosh we would still be considered a contender now.

Alot of teams are an injury away from becoming a lottery team. Overall Amare has been pretty durable.

I don't see either of those picks amounting to much, especially if Melo goes to the Knicks because then you can count that 2012 pick as a late first rounder.

woodypaige Here's a new column: Paige: Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony deal has "wow" factor http://dpo.st/hKlivg

I posted this because there is a short mention of Dallas possibly working out a deal for Melo. What a kick in the junk that would be.

The long-anticipated trade of Carmelo Anthony will finally occur next week, two sources told NBA.com's David Aldridge on Thursday night.

The three-team deal between the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons would send Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton, along with other players, to New Jersey.

It remains to be seen if Anthony will sign an extension with the Nets, but owner Mikhail Prokhorov is confident that he can convince the forward to do so if he acquires him.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets are determined to exhaust every possibility before agreeing to any deal.
