If he is as you say, why did the Nets both to sign a guy like Dooling when they had Marcus Williams on a very cheap rookie contract? I feel funny even commenting because I haven't seen much of him in the NBA. But the Nets had the guy for two years and it's probably safe to say he's worse than Dooling, right? Dumping Williams for that kind of player means they completely gave up on him.

If he's as dead-in-the-water as you seem to think he is why did Mullin agree to deal a "bust" for a first-round pick? Mind you, this isn't the Lakers or Spurs dealing a pick either. This is a rebuilding GS team parting with a pick that clearly has value. Obviously, Mullin obviously thinks this move is just as good of a fit as I do.

Apart from Vince Carter, Sean Williams and (returning from injury) Nenad Krstic, since the Feb trade deadline the Nets have filled out their roster with Devin Harris, Yi Jianlan, Brook Lopez, CDR, Eduardo Najera, Keyon Dooling, and Jarvis Hayes.

They have Stro Swift's $6.2m expiring this season and Bobby Simmons' $10.6m expiring next season. Trenton Hassle has a $4.4m POpt for 2009-10.

Full House in NJ and Rod Thorn is not one to pick up the trash. ;)

What would you do if he liked Dirk?

I watched a lot of the Nets games becoz of VC & Kidd. I think M Williams got his fair share of minutes behind Kidd and D Harris. I have seen enough and so is Lawrence Frank. If you feel a different way about M Williams, then you must know something Lawrence Frank doesnt know. ;)

Obviously Chris Mullin thinks he knows something you don't know too. A first-rounder from a rebuilding team for a so-called-bust? ;)

C'mon, dont use Chris Mullin as your backing. Mullin is the dude who gave the contracts to Foyle, Murphy and Dunleavy. If Mullin didnt get Nelly, I almost forget the Warriors exist. :D

He also got Baron for free, signed Maggette cheap, discovered Monta Ellis and unloaded those horrible contracts for the Stephen Jackson/Al Harrington combo that ultimately helped oust the Mavs. We could go around in circles talking about each GM's ups-and-downs.

I really think this Marcus Williams move will pay off for the reasons I mentioned. I think it's a great fit but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Being a UofA fan, I can definitely say that Marcus Williams is not even worth the 60th pick. I'm serious. The guy is skin and bones, even though he is long. He does have good talent though, but the he just isn't very mature and wasn't a good teammate back at Arizona.

So how the hell did this trade get through, not less even proposed. This is hard for me to wrap my head around.

    He was pick 22.

And his on-court performances have been fairly standard for a backup PG. IE - he isn't (yet) a failure.

That's worth a mid-first round pick imo (20% of which don't make the NBA).

What not take the guy who CAN play backup PG over osmeon who might not!

The House is full with 15 players if Krstic isn't included. Hasn't he agreed to play in Europe?

Well, I dont think I can beat all fantasy league fans write-ups.

If u think a player that has below 2:1 AST/TO ratio is good enough to be a PG/backup PG, then so be it.

If u think a player that has FG% & 3P% ~ 38% and terrible +/- is good enough to be a mid-first round pick, then so be it.

I hope u pick M Williams up in your fantasy team next season. :D

Just explain it to me like I am a 6 year old why M Williams AST/TO ratio is below 2:1 while he possess all the above nice PG qualities u mentioned above.

A lottery protected first-round pick when? 2011? 2012? 2013? That's 3, 4 or 5 years from now. Nobody, including the "rebuilding GS team" has any clue how good they will be then. And lottery protected means it can't be in the top 14.

We'll see. I don't think it will go well. Like happens with most cranky old coaches, Williams hinder parts will grow roots on the bench if Nellie doesn't think he's up to snuff.

Right, but let's pretend for a second a team offers us the same package for Luther Head. You take that in a heartbeat. You know both guys have game but can recognize a bad fit/situation when you see it. Frank clearly was never a fan of Williams (and understandably so, if he does indeed carry baggage) but he's still talented and deserves a second shot elsewhere. You can't judge a PG based solely off of backing up Jason Kidd for a couple years.

I think this will work out and i'm not even a fan of the guy. GS needs a natural PG like him in the rotation so Monta Ellis wont be asked to do too much.

i was joking that you called him legit, but i understood your point.

marcus is the only PG on the roster right now (i think), and as usual, they are stocked with wings.

maybe they'd be interested in one of our PGs for a wing?

Very good illustration with Luther. Agree with you except Nellie doesn't always exercise patience with young players. Williams may remember Lawrence Frank as sunshine if he gets on Nellie's bad side. He will be under a lot more pressure than before.

this is a good fit for GS...I think they paid a step price, but I believe in the end Marcus will do well to run up and down with the likes of ellis, jackson, harrington,ect...
