Nets targeting that funny guy from ABC/ESPN for coach?

    That's a lot of extrapolation from a single bounce-pass vs. the Kings.

    Yao's best offensive efficiency levels (and highest net productivy) were easily pre-injury 2006/07 - it was markedly higher than anything he put up pre JVG and comparable to Olajuwon's offensive efficiency in his prime.

    If you can make a team play hard nosed defense, they have a VERY good chance of making the playoffs. JVG would make them playoff bound on this alone.

    I hope JVG takes a HC job this season. I don't like how his commentary style has changed from humorously analytic to just saying random absurd things. It's probably ESPN's idea, since they use him as a comic focus in their commercials.

    I rather think Yao was at his best last season. He didn't score as frequently as he did in 06/07, but had comparable efficiency level (higher TS%, but also higher TO%) and he had less easy opportunities with McGrady, a great creator of easy shots for teammates, missing much of the season and had to create more of his own offense.

    JVG is an excellent coach for a team that needs discipline on the defensive end. People forget just how PAINFUL his offense was to watch here.....and a lot of that was brought on by himself. He focused on bringing in veteran (read: washed up) players whom he was comfortable with.....but that reduced the athleticism of our team drastically. Go back and look at the rosters of some of those JVG-coached teams, and tell me that isn't brutal to look at. He's a great guy, an awesome on-air personality, and an excellent mentor, but I think his offensive shortcomings cause him to be very limited in what he can do come playoff time. I love the guy, and wish him nothing but success where ever he goes, but some of you are acting like he was a legend over here. 3 first round exits in 4 years, with an offense akin to molasses, says otherwise.

    Well, there would then be at least one team willing to offer Chuck Hayes $2.33M or more.

    Maybe the Rockets would be more willing to pick up that team option?

    i hope he gets the job, poor man has to deal with mark jackson all to often...when i think of it i can't remember seeing any games this year with those two, but i didn't watch many espn or abc games this year

    JVG should be smart enough to not take the Nets job, unless they pull a miracle this summer by getting the No.1 pick in the draft and wign two top-of-the-line FAs (which they have cap room for).

    Thanks for the civil reply.

    You may be right that my memories of Yao's rookie year are not perfect, but comparing his numbers in 06/07 to "anything he put up pre JVG" is a little misleading as well, given that "anything pre JVG" includes only his rookie season.
