The point though is most of us who are tolerant to those that are gay do not see how this is newsworthy because were totally fine with it....gay and straight men play professional sports, yea we all knew this, now lets play ball. The only people that seem to be surprised is the media, who themselves try to benefit from a story like this.
yeah but just because you are and all your mates are cool with it, doesnt mean it's that way in an NBA or NFL lockeroom necessarily. Don't get me wrong I completley understand the 'everyones equal, who cares view' but that isn't exactly the case yet. Look at comments from Jonothan Vilma from the Saints, players are afraid to come out cause of the negativity associated with it, and what Collin's has done is a big step in the right direction, and soon enough you'll have your peace and quiet where something like this, rightly so, no longer becomes newsworthy and is common-place. Years ago it was a big deal when jackie robinson played baseball, now it isn't. just how these things work.
I can see why not those guys (well, actually not). But there was: Kurt Thomas Drew Gooden Ike Diogu Chris Wilcox and dozens of other FA big men. They are a veteran club, so they didn't really need another veteran locker room presence. I just don't think this was a 100% basketball decision.
It was all marketing for the NBA and the Nets as that college kid is gonna get drafted and play for the NFL. The guy is 7ft tall he be ripping up assholes.
You also have to consider that Jason Collins played with the Nets before and also with Jason Kidd so they might've been more comfortable with him than someone else. Anyway even if it isn't a pure basketball decision it is still a major step in our culture.
I'm just hoping this certain poster isn't a father. EVER. Let the REAL men do that. How awful it must be to wake up and be so full of hate for a person you don't even know. I support Collins.
"The Devil you know is better than the Devil you don't." As a player, wouldn't you rather know which of your teammates are gay, instead of not knowing at all? That way, if it bothers you, you could avoid them in the locker room. (I do not support that behavior)
