We're only making this type of trade if KD is 100% coming to Houston...KD is an upgrade from Jalen Green playmaking/shot creator...Cam Johnson is a better shooter than Dillon - we'll replace Dillon's defensive role on the team with Amen, which is an upgrade from Dillon.
In all, this would be a good trade/upgrade for our team contingent if we get KD in a separate trade.
I'm not making this trade if we're not getting KD...

You guys are crazy. Cam Johnson was a starting SF on a NBA Finals team a few years ago. He's 29, and he's an elite 3 point shooter. I don't consider his time with the Nets as counting, you wouldn't try on defense either cause the team was going nowhere and had no direction. Trade Dillon for him ASAP.

The only bad contract we have is Jalen Green, unless they extend FVV with a large sum.

If they trade Jalen for CamJ, they may opt in to Fred's final year and watch if either Amen or Reed or both can phase into the starting PG spot.

There is reason Sean Marks failed to get first round value for the superstar Cam Johnson all year long, you know.

Cam just doesn't move the needle that much for this team. You think Cam is a major upgrade over what Dillon already provides for us?

We need a bonafide star to lead this team. Something like J.Brown, Giannis .... etc. This team also desperately needs a closer. We lost a ton of close games last year because we don't have a number 1 option during clutch time.

Yes, we do but you can't shy away from incrementally improving the team - you do both....

Who knows when you get a Paul George and can flip him for a SGA? Just keep moving the team forward by getting better...until something breaks.

Look at OKC. Good teams just keep drafting

    Make the trade!!

We don't need to send back a bad contract, instead immediately roll it into a Giannis trade. Whether or not Cam Johnson is part of the Giannis trade isn't relevant - just need to match the overall outgoing.

Eg FVV as the "bad contract" goes out to Nets, with Alpy and Tari to Bucks (plus a pick?)

Or, even better, same move but with the Cavs, FVV out to Nets, Cam Johnson (plus ?Reed?) to Cavs and Garland to us

They aren't drafting they are trading, they got their last upgrade by trading Josh Giddey because he didn't fit.

The rumor is Cam Johnson + #19 for a lottery pick and a bad contract. We don't really have any of those, so why not help out a team deep in the luxury tax like Denver and get a better asset out of it?

    Trade Idea
DEN sends out Nnaji, Saric, and 2031 unprotected DEN 1st
    DEN gets #19
Rationale: clear up space to be able to use MLE + cost-controlled asset at #19 for pick way in the future

HOU sends filler contracts (Landale, Holiday, Williams, SnT Roddy at $5MM per, last two years NG)
HOU gets Johnson and 2031 unprotected DEN 1st
Rationale: get immediate impact player in Johnson, upside bet on Denver tearing down for a lottery pick and non-essential pieces (note: SnT would cap us at first apron)

BKN sends out Cam Johnson and #19
BKN gets Houston fillers, Nnaji, Saric, #10
Rationale: get lottery pick for mid/late 1st, expirings, and one bad contract (Nnaji)

Maybe BKN needs more to be sold on this deal, and you consider adding a piece like Whitmore or routing #19 to us and Den 1st to them, but this framework makes sense on multiple levels

Why would you trade a 39% 3 point shooter / very good defender for a 39% 3 point shooter who's a bad defender?

The only issue is that we have to pick in this year's draft due to not controlling our pick next year.

You could simply modify your idea to take back picks 26 and 27 from BKN instead of pick 19, with the Rockets keeping one of them and giving the other to Denver (for the 2031)

They probably referring to Fred’s contract its very valuable to teams needing to shed salary, it would be perfect in a 3 team deal for the Nets or someone else to get Giannis. But the Rockets should probably use it in a KD deal and try to retain as many young players as possible to make another move to get another pg and another big. They could also retain their MLE if they trade Fred’s contract, they can use that and sign another contributor.

Because that doesn't tell the real story.

    The question really is why would you trade a 0.4 VORP, -1.4 BPM .103 WS/48, 55.5% TS% player for a 3.1 VORP, 3.1 BPM, .137 WS/48, 63.2% TS% player.

Johnson brings considerably more just on offense alone than Brooks does in total.

On top of that, Ime's obsession with Dillon Brooks is a problem. You help save Ime from himself by getting rid of Brooks and FVV so that he can't over rely on them.

This team needs spacing A LOT more than they need a technical/flagrant foul waiting to happen.

He misses a lot of games. I don't see that getting better with age. I like him as a player, but I don't know if we have a contract I'd want to give to match his to be perfectly honest.

Yeah, would have to be him I guess. Don't think I'd do it personally. Would be nice to have that shooting, but I'd rather keep Dillon. If Cam had better availability I'd be more inclined to consider it. As it is, I don't see enough upside.

Ooh that is a very good adjustment to the deal. More favorable for BKN than my original proposal

Another alternative is to execute the deal after the draft. You wouldn't be limited by the Stepien rule anymore

A little calculated speculation from me: There is a 6’8 sharpshooting 3/4 from the Atlantic division that the Rockets may end up with via trade this summer, and it’s not Cam Johnson.

    It’s Sam Hauser.

He grades out exceptionally well according to the advanced impact metrics the Rockets FO like to use (just like FVV, Adams, Landale, Holiday, Brooks did before we acquired them), and Boston needs to trade him into someone’s NTMLE this summer to save money. We fit the bill.

Would cost us no outgoing frp’s or players.

You want a cheap rotational wing who is elite from 3, can stay afloat on defense, and has championship experience? He’s the guy.
