Maybe they know Carmelo won't accept an extension with the Nets, by no means?

WojYahooNBA As for meetings scheduled or unscheduled, it's all semantics. If 'Melo is ready to hear them out, they'll sit down.

No love on here for Masai Ujiri? Granted he was up against Billy King and an impulsive Russian but still he's got to get some dap if this goes through.

Unconfirmed rumor that the Knicks will cave in and will meet the Nuggets demands; Carmelo(and others) will be Knicks before Tuesday. fwiw

Maybe not...Melo does not know about the meeting. Also, a brief mention about Houston willing to rent. Melo replies to that and says he is not a rental player. But the last quote was VERY interesting to me. It makes sense why Morey is willing to risk a 'rental':

alanhahn Parameters of a deal remain in place and sides planned to talk more today. Source says Nuggets asking price is "monumental.

alanhahn From what I'm hearing, basically the players Denver wants from Knicks pretty much was group that beat Nets last Saturday w/o Amar'e.

Great strategy by Morey. Playing the odds, if he lands Melo, chances are he'll sign an extension

Ujiri still asking too much to the Knicks; the possibility of Melo rejecting Nets offer... It's time to attack for the last time?

Ujiri may be asking for too much but if the Knicks are going to give in(or Dolan forces it, whichever way you see it), you take it. Fields, Galinari, Felton + change for 'Melo, Billups + change, not too bad of a haul. I think a NY-Denver deal gets done.

I agree with your point, the problem is that currently they seem too far from agreement. If Hahn sources are OK, the differences are not Gallinari but greater, could be intractable even for the owner. Still the favourites, but not for much more time. Ujiri has to make a decision soon because if he trades Melo he needs some time to deal with the another assets.

NYK confident latest offer is respectable and could get done for Melo soon. DEN preferred Gallinari over Fields after being asked to choose.

Melo is the plug that is holding up a lot of trades... This drama needs to get over itself.

What the h would their starting lineup be? They still wouldn't contend in the east

That's a fair offer. And the Knicks would still be competitive after the trade unlike the Net's scenario. Melo should stick to his guns.

Not this year but if they don't pickup Billups contract and depending on the new CBA they will have some good cap room to add a center and PG or SG in the offseason.
