Clearing out salary to sign Paul in 2012? CAA can do that. I'm not liking this at all. CAA would have too much control over two NBA franchises. MIA Wade, LeBron, Bosh, and Pat Riley? NY Melo?, Paul?, and Mark Warkentien
sounds more like The Nets want to stick it to the Knicks either way. Nothing like stealing old Knicks players. then again, I trust Chris Broussard as much as I trust a condom from a rest stop vending machine.
If the Nets actually pull that off... Prokhorov just might become one of my favorite owners in the league.
QFT. melo isn't as good of a player to be worth 3 starters. the nets will make out like bandits if they can get the knicks players in a separate deal (they're all young too). now they ca flip harris/felton for better players PG - harris/felton/farmar SG - morrow/machine/chandler SF - gallo/outlaw PF - favors C - lopez/mozkov now that's a legit team. wow.
Yes, I like this move. This just makes Denver push even harder for Mozgov to be included in the trade for Carmelo. I see a huge rivalry brewing between the Knicks and the Nets. It's going to be fun to see how this plays out.
Ya, me too - so far I love the moves he has been taking. I thought that billboard he put up near the Knicks offices was brilliant. A few people argued with me on this earlier, but I think this guy is bold enough he might actually be able to make his Brooklyn team the starring attraction in NY. If he can trot out a decent playoff team - one with former Knicks faves in a brand new arena(MSG is disgusting now and in need of serious renovations) with stars like Jaz Z and Beyonce sitting court side every game, I don't see why the Nets can't be a threat to the Knicks....and make no mistake - Prokhorov's goal here is more about being a success at the Knick's demise than just being a successful franchise.
Damn. I just figured out how the Nuggets can possibly trade Mozgov and Gallo to the Nets. And it involves an aspect of the Knicks trade that I had not yet considered: a HUGE trade exception for Chauncy Billups. ESPN only mentions this by reference in its article, but here is how (I think) the entire Nuggets trade saga would play out for salary cap purposes, assuming that New York agrees to part with Mozgov and that New Jersey uses picks to get some of the Knicks players acquired). WARNING: THIS IS PRETTY COMPLICATED. Trade #1: Three-way trade (DEN/NYK/MIN) Denver gets: Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, 2014 NYK 1st rd. pick and Corey Brewer New York gets: Carmelo Anthony, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams Minnesota gets: Nothing (yet). Maybe a nominal (top-55 protected) pick. Trade #2: Billups to Minnesota Minnesota gets: Chauncey Billups Denver gets: A ~$13.2M trade exception Trade #3: Minnesota gets its "stuff" New York gets: Chauncey Billups (who CAN be immediately re-traded by himself) Minnesota gets: Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry and cash Trade #4: How New Jersey can get the Knicks Denver gets: Troy Murphy (and cash?) (using the new Billups TPE) New Jersey gets: A ~$11.9M trade exception Trade #5: Mozgov goes to New Jersey New Jersey gets: Timofey Mozgov (using portion of new Murphy TPE) Denver gets: A ~$3.6M trade exception (= Mozgov's salary) and a first rounder Trade #6: Gallo goes to New Jersey New Jersey gets: Danilo Gallinari (using portion of new Murphy TPE) Denver gets: A ~$3.3M trade exception (= Gallo's salary) and a first rounder In the end, Denver gets Felton, Chandler, Brewer, Murphy, 3 first rounders, a ~$1.3M TPE (remainder of Billups TPE), a ~$3.6M TPE (Mozgov) and a ~$3.3M TPE (Gallinari). Confusing enough for you??? Oh, yeah. I could be wrong about all this.
Great work BimaThug. See THIS is a fair scenario for Denver as opposed to just the plain NYK trade that was thrown out there this weekend. I would completely do this if I were Denver.
Now, modify this trade. Remove Minny. Trade Yao to Sacramento for a TPE. Then use the Yao TPE along with our expirings and picks to make this work for Denver, NY, and NJ....with us getting Nene and Randolph out of it.
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=6144608 Even if the New Jersey Nets do not acquire Carmelo Anthony, they still might pull off a trade with the Denver Nuggets, one that would likely be a sore spot for their cross-river rivals in New York, according to high-ranking league officials. If the New York Knicks send Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler and Timofey Mozgov to Denver for Anthony, the Nets are in discussions to then acquire either Gallinari, Felton or Chandler plus Mozgov for two first-round draft picks. That deal is obviously contingent upon the Knicks trading all those players to Denver for a package headlined by Anthony and Chauncey Billups. The Nets remain confident that they can acquire Anthony before the deadline, but if he instead is obtained by the Knicks, they see this trade as an alternative way to strengthen their team, the sources said. The move could also burn the Knicks, who are reluctant to part with so many of their coveted young prospects, even for a player of Anthony's ability. To see a couple of them opening the Nets' new arena in Brooklyn could certainly be bothersome to the Knicks' franchise. Although league rules generally preclude packaging players for two months after they are acquired via trade, Denver can package players acquired from New York in a subsequent trade with New Jersey if the players involved are sent to the Nets in separate but simultaneous smaller deals before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline. One example: New Jersey could trade Troy Murphy to the Nuggets as a trade exception that Denver would generate by the trade of Billups to New York. The Nets, then, would accept multiple players from Denver whose aggregated salaries are less than Murphy's. There are other combinations possible for the Nuggets and Nets to make two separate trades to satisfy league rules and convey the former Knicks to New Jersey. Sources confirmed to ESPN.com a Friday report from the Bergen (N.J.) Record that New Jersey has agreed in principle to send prized rookie Derrick Favors, former All-Star guard Devin Harris, Murphy (and his expiring contract), Ben Uzoh and four first-round picks to Denver for Anthony, Billups, Shelden Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman. As ESPN.com reported Thursday night, Denver would then use at least one of those future first-round picks to package with Murphy -- either in this trade or in a separate deal -- to a third team yet to be determined. That deal is contingent on Anthony signing a three-year, $65 million extension to remain in New Jersey long-term. But the Nuggets are currently embroiled in talks with New York, Anthony's preferred destination. The Knicks are willing to send Gallinari, Chandler, Felton and a first-round pick to Denver, but the Nuggets are pushing for Mozgov, a 7-foot center, to be included in the package. Landing Mozgov (and then trading him to New Jersey) would be a huge coup for Denver, since it would enable it to get the draft picks it desires, along with some of the Knicks' young talent, along with a savings of roughly $20 million this season. Felton (2005, No. 5 by Bobcats), Chandler (2007, 23rd by Knicks) and Gallinari (2008, sixth by Knicks) are all former first-round picks. Mozgov, a former six-year pro in his native Russia, was signed as a free agent in July.
