The journalist(s). It was confirmed by a bunch of legit writers and it sure isn't a rarity for spokesman to lie.
Knicks not going any further with offers. Will Denver accept NY offer in the end? Will 'Melo accept NJ [offer] to get his money? Will Denver hold onto 'Melo? Will NY give in one last time? Or....? What do you think happens?
If he hasn't already, Melo will tell Denver management he only wants NY. It's up to Denver to accept NY's offer, and my feeling is that they will.
KBerg_CBS [rquoter]Sources: #Knicks have made final offer for Melo: Chandler, Gallinari, Felton, Curry, first. No Fields, no Mozgov. It's up to Denver now. Curry and his $11 million expiring contract would go to Minnesota along with Anthony Randolph as part of Melo deal, @CBSSports has learned. #Denver would send Melo, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams and Anthony Carter to New York, sources say. Denver gets first from Minn. [/rquoter]
Now seriously. We've been collecting assets for a long time for situations like this. Sacrificing chemistry, experience, wins after all. Is the Houston situation worse than the Nets' one for Melo? If we present Ujiri a good offer, he could answer a no to NY and then it's time for Melo to accept Houston as destiny. For Daryl it's time to swallow the pride and make a last try. Find that 3rd team to present an appropiated offer and here we go.
Why would Houston trade for a rental? Melo doesn't want to come here. While Yao, T-Mac and Franchise had their slew of problems, they were, in their respective times, receptive of playing for the Rockets for many years. There's no long-term value in trading for Melo. It would be a stupid and crippling move.
No, he won't accept being traded without extension, he said that. He would here come with the extension, this is why we can present now a better offer. Knowing Daryl's obsession for getting a star, he must be trying right now a last offer. We're at 4 days of the deadline, supposedly teams are now more receptive to changes. A direct trade with Denver is not viable, they just don't like our assets; it's time to use a 3rd team as bridge, we can do that. Quite sure he's trying it.
... Sorry. He's saying he wants to decide his future now. If he does not want to come Houston, he will let us know and there will be no trade. The rental option is no longer an option, it's all or nothing.
I must say, Denver inventing a new Nets offer for the press and the the Knicks biting and upping theirs is pretty funny.
Morey wants a shot at convincing Melo to stay in Houston. It's a risk, but it's the way you win in the NBA, by making big risks.
If I were Denver I would honestly let Melo walk than accept that crap package. I'm gonna trade a top 10 player and a good PG and all I get back is 3 average players, one an arguably worse PG and another a dude entering free agency, and a 1st rounder 3 years from now? I would rather have the multiple picks and large TE that the Cavs and Raptors got than that.
KBerg_CBS Correction for all you capologists out there: Source says Minn sends Corey Brewer to Denver in proposed Melo deal.
