After the way everything played out last off-season with Dwight forcing his way onto the Lakers after the Nets deal fell through, I won't be surprised. To all the people saying, "Why would Minnesota do that?!", I have one question: Why did Orlando sell Dwight for literally $.30 on the dollar to the Lakers? Sometimes, agents and players are more powerful than entire front offices. I get the feeling that ultimately, Dwight is going to get what he wants, and he will be a Net sooner or later.
Well IMHO this doesn't make sense. Agents and players get a lot of power in terms of FA signings, and once the player signs with the team (ala Lebron in Cleveland), but in this case Howard was getting traded. Other than say he won't stay after his contract expires, Howard can't do anything else-threatening not to play would violate his contract and cost him his max salary. And what kind of hold would Dwight's agent have over Orlando anyway? Trade Dwight to the Lakers, or else...what? It's just my consipiracy theory, but I think the Lakers paid off Orlando for that trade to go down. Maybe Buss sent several million dollars to Orlando's owner to facilitate that trade, I can't think of any other logical reason why Orlando and Memphis would allow themselves to get raped like that.
I think the chances are low that Dwight leaves. Where else would he go? Here, that's a pipedream. I just don't know where else.
I didn't believe Howard would leave LA until : 1) The other day on ESPN, Magic Johson suggested Mavs to trade for Howard - it strikes me since Magic is kind of an insider and loyal Lakers supporter. 2) Larry Coon's recent tweet confirming that Howard wouldn't leave much money on the table if he walks away - He'd get one less year but can make up for it in his next big contract.
The Lakers, more than any other team in NBA history, know the importance of possessing a franchise-changing five. Hell, they're blessed with one every generation. Stand put. At least as far as Dwight goes.
Before this season started I was PRO DWIGHT and I wished we could've landed him even if it meant giving up all our "assets". Why? Because I thought Dwight was a top 3 player in the league. Lebron/Durant/Dwight. With that said... he's just not the same. Numbers wise he's still pretty good but if you watch him play compared to even a couple seasons ago he doesn't move like he used to. He's just not as dominant. I think his back is more jacked up then some may think. Damaged used goods.
not this **** again. can we just make a "Dwightmare" thread so all the trade rumors about dwight that are likely to come out don't clutter up the dish?
I get what you're saying, but you can't make a monster trade like this and then give up after one season. A season that's been hampered with injuries, a poorly balanced roster and inadequate coaching. He's 27-years-old old and still productive (despite moving/jumping like he has cement in his shoes). Throwing in the towel signifies that you don't think Dwight will ever be capable of returning to proper form. It's too early to make that call in my estimation. Banking their immediate future on Dwight is a risk the Lakers have to take.
Nah it's not his physical problems that I'm concerned about, he came back prematurely from his back injury and is nursing a torn shoulder. He'll be better once he gets proper rest in the off-season. The problem is the fact that he's a $20 Million headcase who will put in poor effort if he's not getting everything his way. And his way isn't a winning formula because his post-game sucks and he can't hit free-throws.
I know it makes no sense Minnesota to trade for Lopez while they got Peko but Lopez is seriously undrated on this board. Is there anyone watching Nets games this year? Anyone?
By far the stupidest thing I've seen a team do, sign Lopez to a max contract. He knows and the whole world knows he didnt deserve that. It just fell on his lab.
Nets have aggressively denied the rumours. These have been coming from Dwight's camp. It looks like he may be looking to move.

Dwight is getting outta there ASAP. He ain't gonna be Kobe's rebounding machine. There's a high chance I see him coming here.
Of course they deny it. You don't want persistent trade rumors to make Brook Lopez feel like a trade asset while he's having a good season for a now winning team. Doesn't mean they are not trying to trade Lopez, though.
Ugh sorry about that http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/225736/Source_Denies_Nets_Interest_In_Trading_For_Howard
