He didn't opt out to sign with the Nets. Good grief. He was trying to go to SA to start the offseason but SA couldn't agree on a S&T with the Pups.

Greed and ego usually drive these player contract decisions. Case in point Kobe refusing to take less money, or on a lesser scale Josh Smith going to a garbage team in Detroit with little hope of much improvement during his 4 years there.

Maybe AK-47 had enough of being on middling to horrible teams and wanted a chance to be on a winner for the last couple years of his career. I'd be surprised if that was the case, but happy to see a player walk away from a more lucrative offer to be a part of something greater at a lesser price. Taking a lesson from Dwight and leaving money on the table for a shot at championship runs. I like it.

he'll probably miss a bunch of games but $3.1 million is a bargain basement deal. the Nets are absolutely stacked too. yeah, they're old but they're still very good and deep. should be a very interesting season for them.

I think Prokhorov is willing to lend one of his Russian hotties to Kirilenko for his once-a-year allowance.

Nope, I will take OKC, SA, HOU, CHI and maybe LAC and Indy over them.

The Nets are improved but they still are old as hell, have a rookie coach, no legit star players and half their team will end up on the IR.

1)Deron Williams is a star player, and Brooke Lopez just might be the best young center in the NBA
2)Age doesn't matter as much when your starters only have to play 25-30 minutes a game because..
    3)Their bench is absolutely STACKED.

Anyone who doesn't think they have a chance at contending is either biased or incredibly ignorant.

AK played for CSKA Moscow and Prokhorov used to own that team. I'm sure they have a pretty good relationship. Under the table money... I guess that's possible but I like to believe that AK just took less money for a shot at winning.

Remember... reports had said AK could've gone back to Russia for a more lucrative long term deal than the 1 year $10 million.

And the following is from yahoo
Chump change for Prokhorov ... but damn that's a lot of money.

Nets still remind me of a stitched-together Frankenstein and I doubt a first-time coach like Jason Kidd is strong enough to make them mesh properly.

If the Nets are serious about making a run, I believe they REALLY messed up by hiring Kidd. Bad timing for on-the-job training.

I think you're mostly right. I subscribe to this theory. The arguable difference is that Kidd will get the most out of Deron, more than any other coach. This team is as good as Deron is.

Another player to help Nets stay the most hated team in the East alongside Heat.

Suspicious signing to say the least.
