What if his back is done, we cut him on January 10th and his agent just got him $5 million for not doing anything?
Is this purely precaution or just flat out telling everyone that his back is most likely not going to hold up? Terrible deal for DMo if he's actually healthy. No brainer match if the Rockets feel good about his medicals.
Assuming his deal isn't voided on March 1, DMo will have made $17 million in about 3 months, so there are positives to it from DMos perspective. Still say match. The downside is it gives you less control in free agency, but there is still some wiggle room there if DMo will accommodate a trade.
I kind of think, after seeing the deal, and the failed trade, that maybe the Rockets didn't want the guy all along. Shame. I hope we match.
I say match, too. A player can't reject a trade unless they have a specific clause for that, right? (Truly I have no idea what the actual offer is or what stage we're at here, just checking in on the last couple of pages of chaos in this thread thanks to the Yule C thread.)
Yeah, it's basically all about that March 1 deadline...if we match, we'll have to decide if we want to guarantee his 2nd year or not...could've been worse for us i guess lol. Not sure if there's at least one single reason why we shouldn't match at this point...am i missing something?
Very team friendly deal. Looks like Sean Marks is operating like Morey the way he structured the deal. Match for sure, hopefully!
Could be right. Maybe they view it as the "poison pill," one that benefits both Donuts and the Nets. Motiejunas gets around $17 million locked in on March 1st, if he can stay healthy for that long, and the Nets, besides having their fingers crossed that he ends up being healthy, hope to dissuade Morey from matching. Daryl loves his flexibility. Interesting. I still think Morey matches, unless there's a glaring health issue when they check him out.
Well, he was under Buford in San Antonio so it doesn't surprise me he didn't sign D.Mo to a terrible deal for their franchise.
Yep, same here, in the end it's still better to keep him until March if nothing...if he plays well you make his second year guaranteed and you can still trade him in the summer if that's ok for him (which i think it will in most of the available cases anyway).
You match, and if you don't want him you tell him that by March 1st, and he gets to be an UFA next season- which is good for him and the Rockets get the Cap flexibility they want good for Morey. If Dmo signed Morey's deal he was locked in for 2 years....with a lowball team option. Now if the Rockets exercise year 2, he gets more money and the Rocks can trade him if they like. This is almost too perfect. DD
Contract is almost like a VETERAN'S version of the Morey 2nd rounder 4 year contract (like the Parson's deal). First 1-2 years some locked in money, then team opt-outs the last 2-3. Very TEAM friendly, can have them for longer and cheaper. (And though unlikely, there's always outside chance D-Mo can AGREE to be traded) Seems a fair contract to me --- And sorry these D-Mo thread bumps are NOT cute, too much cluster to follow
You do realize this deal is only $1.25m more than Morey's July offer of $8m. And raises or descreases are limited to 4.5%. So if we lowballed DMo, then Nets are only giving him a marginally better ball....plus he lost $2.25m in missed games and is due to by $825k in New Jersey state income tax, if he isn't matched. It's barely a better deal when you account for income tax.
