Honestly, it seems like it would be stupid not to match it according to all the information available in regards to the offer sheet.
The Deal was $8m in the July, and dropped when he held out. And the $7m was reported by Stein and Watkins to have Incentives to get it back to $8m. Likely the same incentives in the $9.8m number Woj is reporting as having incentives, too.
What are the insiders, real & fake, saying about matching (or not)? Spoiler No, YULE C is not an acceptable answer. Spoiler YOOL SEA!
It is only a $1.8m difference over what Morey offered in July, and the $7m had likely incentives to get to $8m. That is a marginal difference over what Morey's plan was all along. He'll match. This isn't about next summer, except to us fans...this appears in line with Morey's plans all along....just marginally higher.
That's what I thought too but didn't want to use the $8 million. Otherwise, my original post would have needed an additional meme: Spoiler
He got offered less than 10M a year, which is what I suspected he would get. You simply don't give a lot of money for players who haven't proven **** after a serious injury and questionable future prognosis. At his current contract, he basically breaks even for this season and gets a couple of years of security. Not too bad, but definitely not the idiocy some of D-Mo's die hard fans were proclaiming he would get. If I am DM, I would match this and hope for the best. Worst case, we jettison him and take a cap hit, but if it pans out with D-Mo returning to form, it would be a bargain once the cap increases again.
Oh my God, why do we need to match an offer of a player who can't stay healthy? Shut up it won't happen!
I doubt even Brooklyn is that incompetent to give him a trade veto. Player option on the other hand, I am a bit nervous about. EDIT: Just saw it was non-guaranteed. DM will most likely match IMO.
Uh... D-Mo has had ONE injury, granted it was a big one. Let's not act like he was injury prone like T-Jones was.
I think the only problem with Parsons offer sheet was that Cubes gave him a player option after his second year, that basically made him very hard to trade cause he wasn't tradable in his first season without his consent (and you can bet Parsons would've refused to be traded in a lot of teams), and he would've been an expiring in his second season so, tradable but with a lot less value.
Dmo has one of the worst agents in the league. Now Dmo thinks we did him wrong. It's better to cut ties than lock up our FA cap space for next off-season.
So is D-Mo going to make the full $9.8MM this year or a prorated 62/82 of that figure? If it's the latter, and D-Mo doesn't reach his bonuses & is cut after year 2, is it possible that BJ COST him money?
