I was expecting only 2yrs. Why would he do 4 yrs? when only 2 are insured. Actually 1 3/4th really. I'm not playing this up. 4yrs at $9.5m is a horrible deal for him, if he returns to 2015 form. 2yrs guaranteed only is what I expected. 2 more years not guaranteed is a shocker, imso.
Easy match. I can't imagine they wouldn't. Especially since it seems that D'Antoni really wants him on the team.
I haven't seen the offer, but you're absolutely right. To put it a bit differently, the way I've been putting it for a while, he has been negotiating this contract as if it will be his last. That should scare ANYONE out of guaranteeing him a second year. If he's even worth a damn anymore he would do SO incredibly much better than 9 mil in year two. You're right. Everything he's done this offseason, all the bizarre behavior, points to one thing and one thing only: he doesn't believe in his ability to play well enough to get even a decent contract (which would be well above 9K/year for a serviceable big man) in the summer.
If they are banking on trying for a max contract this summer, I would hope they would think about moving other contracts first before passing on matching this offer. I guess this depends on the word from the team physicians.
Only one yr can be an option. imo, the way Woj wrote that...it is just about guaranteed money for "Lack of Skill" as they word it in the CBA....that means he can be cut at the team's discretion like Lawson's 2nd year.
What? So the whole thing isn't straight money. It has incentives? That is just a tad more than Morey's deal, just one extra yr of guaranteed money. He will match that.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojVerticalNBA 40s40 seconds ago The offer sheet includes $1M annual in "likely" bonuses," and $500K in "unlikely" bonuses, league sources said. DD
nope. I'm operating under the knowledge of every team's depth chart. One just has to take a casual look at the depth of the pf positions over the league to be certain that either right now or next year DMO would be a starter at pf in very few teams. That doesn't even include new high lottery pick...like the one Miami is about to get.
No, but as today no one really knows...do you really think there're no teams willing to take D.Mo on a expiring 9x year deal (with two non guaranteed years later)? I think there are few/some out there, and maybe other will, Brewer might be harder, but next summer he will be a 7x expiring, not that bad if you ask me.
that's probably with only the likely bonuses. What would be a likely bonus for DMO in BKN this season? Playoffs? no. Starting? maybe yes. Minutes? doubtful since probably he will have to ease into his minutes to start and he has already missed 1 1/2 month.
True, but you risk this upcoming FA class of Blake, Hayward, Jrue Holiday, even Millsap, unless you fell Ryan Anderson and Brewer can be moved easily.
I think..no I KNOW that there are very few teams that will have 9.8 capspace + in need for a pf who is doubtful to even be of starting quality. They will have to absorb him in capspace without sending any salary back. If you add Brewer to that? so almost 17.5 mil in capspace for our trading partner.. The list probably is 0. And if there is one it will be after they have failed to get their own targets..which will be after the first days of FA so after Hayward has already made his decision.
So now it's up to DMo to play hard for the next 3.75 years so he can cash in on the big free agent summer of 2020. Hard to see how this was a good move for him if he really thinks he's fully healthy.
If healthy, this is a horrible long-term deal from DMo's perspective. So you're right, he seems to not be confident in his ability to earn another contract. It wouldn't surprise me if in a few years we find out, like Sam Bowie pre-draft, DMo knew he was injured and was hiding pain to get one last deal. Regardless, I'm hoping that we match and am willing to find out. A two year deal doesn't seem like an albatross and hopefully he stays healthy and returns to 14-15 form. Maybe we'll get a healthy DMo on a bargain contract for four years. That's me being optimistic, but it's a possibility.
