I am guessing flexibility is more important than money to Morey at this point. I don't think Morey would want to be tied down with a risky player to more than 1 year. He is probably willing to match a bigger front loaded contract but non-guaranteed beyond the first year.
If/When the offer sheet gets signed, should we start a new thread and repeat everything we said here again, this time regarding matching or not? @FTW Rockets FTW @Os Trigonum Also, that will give me a chance to be on the First Page this time.
When offer sheet comes in a new thread needs to happen. I hate mega threads where the title lost relevance weeks ago.
You can't do that to a RFA, got to have 2 years guaranteed minimum, though the 2nd year could be for peanuts, or a low guarantee.... I doubt it will be that kind of a deal....guess we will see what the market bares. DD
OK, I'll do that, and you go into the Dish and preemptively start the "[2016-17] DMo as a Brooklyn Net" thread, and FTW Rockets FTW (or better DaDakota) can preemptively start the "DMo Appreciation Thread" and well as a "Welcome Back DMo" thread....just to be safe.
all the Nets sites and NY reporters are basically saying it's going to happen tonight. what a time to be alive
I'll go on record. Prediction: Not 3/40. That's a dream. Closer to 3/30. Will Morey match? I don't know.
3/40 would be a smart offer from the standpoint that I doubt the Rockets would match it given that it would put them over the luxury.
Eh, i hope you're right but i'm not sure we can talk about "a dream" when guys like Mahinmi got 65x4 fully guaranteed...if there's a third year team option/non guaranteed it's not that big...
The offer will be quite high. DMo is a RFA and the Nets aren't going to make it easy for us to match by giving a lowball offer. 3/40 or higher wouldn't surprise me at all and I think we'll let him walk.
The only way I would see the Rockets matching something 3/40 or higher would be if they had a trade set up to cut salary in order to get below the luxury.
This is true, but Marks is also coming from the Spurs so i wonder if he's really willin to break the bank (say a 50x3 or 65x4) for D.Mo...eh, i can see a big two year deal (so they can also gain D.Mo early bird rights), or a 3/4 year deal with less money and a team option/non guaranteed money in the last year/s maybe, but a halfway which would basically be a 40x3 with team option/non guarateed final year seems to make more sense to me, but well, we'll see soon.
We are $19m below the tax line. Are you including DMo's $5.7m cap hold in your calculation? Spotrac is. That would no longer count if we sign him. It converts to actual salary. I wonder if that's why malakas' RealGM guy is guessing 3/40. Maybe he is also mistakenly thinking that's a magic number to get us into tax territory. This page by Spotrac sure makes it look like a 3/40 would put us into the tax...but it won't. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/
