Wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I admit at being a bit lost even at the midpoint of the movie. Like who was the Bright and why didn't that elf chick that needed help use the wand way before that point that she did. Also, what the hell happened to her after she used it? Was that some sort of aftermath from using the wand as a rookie? If so, why didn't Big Willie receive the same flesh impingement? Overall 6 of 10 for me.
I thought they did a good job setting up the world and the classes, etc, and the characters seemed interesting, but the story itself was kinda bleh. Might have been better without a big name like Will Smith, so I could have taken it as a campy weird movie.
Holy major plot armor though. How can you take out an entire swat team and then have trouble with Will Smith and his half r****ded Orc partner? I thought if they wouldve broke it down into a series to explain the world and the characters more, it would be great.
I was expecting a lot worse. Its pretty much a modern day LOR. It wasn't the movie of the year, but better than the endless superhero crap dribbled out all summer long.
Actually, Spoiler The reveal that Will Smith's character is a Human Bright actually explains that he could go toe to toe with those Elves.
Joel Edgerton was a Bright as well that's why he was able to be levitated and be revived by the magic wand. So it would have been an even 3 vs 3 match up... winner take all.
Wife and I watched on Sunday morning, I was surprised at how enjoyable it was. Premise is out there but I like it, they did a lot of world building throughout. If you go with it, it's a good time. Shame they didn't give Noomi Rapace more to do outside of look cool. Think it was a solid C+. I'd check out a sequel if it comes out.
I'm starting to think Netflix paid critics to give this one a bad review. People who wouldn't have bothered with this movie are checking it out just to see how bad it is. It happened with Death Note, every one watched that movie just to see if it was that bad... it was, but Netflix got the views it wanted. No one is going to fork over dollars to see a bad movie in theaters after bad word of mouth, but people will tune in on their couches. I think Netflix is getting over.
It was like a SyFy version of Alien Nation except with Orcs and Fairies etc This movie was great The series after . . . was about the same level as bright Rocket River

I actually liked the movie.. I think people are underrating how smoothly they transitioned the elf/orc/fairy world into present day life style & situations. Also glad they didn’t make it much about Will Smith & his family. The only thing that really bothered me is how they mentioned Brights are so rare yet it seems like they were pretty common. 7.8/10 Excited for the sequel and glad they didn’t reveal the dark lord, they really need to nail it with him though, they can very easily **** it up with all the hype.
This. Needed to be a series. I'm never one to be overly critical of movies/shows, as all I expect is some simple entertainment, but halfway thru I was thinking 'WTF this needs to pick up'. Still was entertained, but it could have been a lot better.
it was ok. nothing special. so the spells are in elven language, so naturally brights are meant to be for elves. i don't see how ward can benefit from being a bright if he has no magic experience at all. i hope he dies early in the sequel and jakoby becomes the bright jedi.
