Netflix has an agreement with certain movie companies to introduce movies into their system a month after it hits stores in exchange for more favorable access to older movie titles. The big movie companies would rather you buy each and every movie you watch instead of renting. Redbox is hurting from this because they refuse to enter into such an agreement.
I sort of just discovered this for myself...as Netflix is technically not supposed to be available if you are outside the USA. VPN (I had recently started another thread on this) plus iPad plus Netflix streaming subscription = GOLD (plus they also took my non-US credit card, LOL). Love it! The VPN thing is like the best thing ever, you get around all these stupid-ass location based restrictions where you can't use a service based on where you just happen to be.
Any recommendations for good movies from the streaming library? Movies I like are, e.g., Hangover style comedies and Thrillers like Usual Suspects. Thanks...
I don't even use that. It's really a waste of money for me if there isn't something I really want to watch that I can't get from Redbox.
Im still baffled that Blockbuster is still open every time i drive by it. Netflix is the way to go, especially if your poor and cant afford cable+movie channels and only have cable internet.
Unless you're old and scared of computers; or just too dirt cheap to get cable. You could also check out movies from the library: like the Paper Chase and A Funny Thing Happended On the Way to the Forum a billion times (thanks, Mom.)
Well, Blockbuster filed for chapter 11 in September...1 billion USD debt. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/23/blockbuster-bankrupt-vide_n_736072.html
Starting this month, they're charging $9.99 a month for 1 DVD + unlimited streaming. But, they're offering a "new streaming only plan" for $7.99. I opted for a dollar less, because I hardly use the DVD service...it takes too long. I'm a lazy American, and going to my mailbox requires getting off my butt.
LOL, believe me that doesn't apply only to Americans . I got the $ 7.99 plan...would have anyway, but shipping DVDs to Europe is not an option...even streaming isn't, unless you make it seem like you are in the US.
Netflix streaming is overrated. The library is terrible, flat out bad. They only have a few good TV shows, lost, NBC sitcoms (no Community yet wtf), and south park/chapelle's show. After that it is way downhill.
Chill with the hyperbole. The selection is not amazing, and newer releases are few and far between, but there are a ton of quality programs available on there. Dexter, Weeds, Californication, 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Recreation (at least it used to be), Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, 30 Days, tons of other shows I've never even watched...plus a heaping helping of stand up comedy and top notch documentaries and National Geographic / Discovery programs. I guarantee anyone can find more than enough on there to justify $7.99 a month.
