No doubt. This makes it all the more apparent how incredible our deal was with Swift. Man that trade hurts...
That drastically depends on what you are looking for. Nene, I suppose, has more offensive prowess. He's been a decent scorer in his first few years. But he's a horrific defender, has never averaged even 1 block per game, and is average on the glass for such a big body. I don't think he's had averages of more than 6.5 rpg, ever. Camby certainly shores up Nene's weaknesses in that regard, but both Camby and Nene are a mere ankle tweak away from sitting on the pine longterm. Dalembert gives you a great shotblocking presence, and while thinner, he's a much more accomplished rebounder and gets his share of offensive boards. So, perhaps it's a situational thing. But on most teams, I take Dalembert aby day over Nene.
That's a huge "if". I think K-Mart has negative trade value so you guys getting a worthwhile SG for him seems doubtful.
It's interesting. When you look past the injury, he had a weird statistical year. Per 48 minutes: 0 pts, 0 reb, 0 ast, 32 TO, 16 PF. (and 16 missed field goals as a bonus). That's for an entire season! It must be the worst season, per 48 minutes, in the history of organized basketball.
Nuggets4, I think this signing is a huge mistake that will burden the franchise for a long time. Nene doesn't deserve that kind of money just because Dalembert got it and, for me, the injury makes Nene radioactive when it comes to offering long term money. Prepare to be heartbroken within a couple of years.
This came up in another thread: True superstar franchise players (Yao, Wade, LeBron, maybe Bosh & Melo) who get max contracts are bargains because their price is capped.
I knew it. I was not saying Yao could have negotiated for a bigger contract. he has gotten the most he could possibly get. But when you compare the two players and their contracts, the price of Yao is absolutely bargain basement. And we should be happy about it because our cap money has been well-spent in this case.
I knew what you were saying and I repeat with an edit: True superstars who get max contracts after their rookie contracts are bargains. Next go round when they can get 35% of the salary cap or $20-25MM per year, that is another story.
That contract is ridiculous. You could argue that Dalembert, Dampier, Foyle, and Boozer have gotten similar or even bigger contracts, but I can guarantee you that all of their teams have immediately regretted it. Hell, even Denver has their own 11 million dollar a year mistake in Kenyon Martin. Could you live with that one Nuggets4? Cause Cato's and Mo Taylor's contracts sure sucked ass for us. I can't understand why they would possibly do this. Is there some other team with capspace that was pursuing him for that amount? Only Atlanta might be interested and you know they'd go after Chris Wilcox first. That's why Seattle's lowballing Wilcox; no one else is spending the money! Denver bid against themselves. They could've offered him a more reasonable 7mil/yr contract and no one would outbid them.
This is one of the worse contract in recent years, right there next to Foyle's. Atleast Dalembert played well in the playoffs before he got his contract, what exactly has Nene done? The last time I remember hearing about him in the news was he was on the recieving end of a KMart punch. I really can't see anyone taking KMart's contract without atleast getting rid of a similiarly bad contract and an unprotected 1st. Does anyone know what possible options are even out there?
Think about the big man signings last offseson: Dalembert: team desperately trying to get rid of him. Chandler: traded for expiring contract + 2nd round picks (from the JR Smith portion) Eddy Curry: Not trade only Isiah overpaid for his ass. Jerome James: Now, we got Nene at 60 mil, Wilcox and Gooden looking for 60 mil (probably have to settle for something like 50)... by next off season, how many of these prized signings do you think will be desperately shopped?
Along with everybody else, I see this as an idiotic contract to give out. It's funny how often we can spot albatross contracts when they're signed and yet the GM apparently thinks it is a good idea. Besides Nene having not really shown all that much, he just missed a whole season to injury. Can he even get back to the mediocre player he was? The Nuggets just hanged themselves.
