Nene is worth about half of that. He is injury-prone and a poor rebounder for his size -- a glorified bust.
Nene for 60M?? I thought Kiki V. didn't work there anymore. They have to let K-Mart go for peanuts and expiring contracts now. They have like a trillion dolloars committed to the PF position.
Big men are ALWAYS grossly overpaid, especially young ones that have the size and weight of Nene. Look at Dalembert and Tyson Chandler, they barely started for their teams after they signed their huge deals.
Exactly what I was thinking. Trying to figure out what Denver would go for, I came up with this: We sign and trade Wesley to them for $3.578 million. This is the lowest amount that can matchup 125% + 100K with Najera's $4.57 million salary. They get a veteran shooter that they need, save about a million dollars in salary and have an extra million in breathing room under the luxury tax. We get some depth at the forward spot and the perfect gnat to throw at any low post big man. We all know that Najera is annoying as hell when he starts fronting your big guy. Just toss him down on Duncan or Brand and have Yao help over the top. The only concern is whether Wesley would want to play another year, or is he just ready to retire. Because I don't think it'll be worth it to Denver if they don't get a player out of the deal. Unfortunately we don't have a big enough TE to completely take Najera's salary off their hands. It comes down to whether Wesley would play for Denver or not. Although $3 million is a nice going away present that he might not get otherwise.
He changed his name after the 2002 draft. It was changed after the 2002-2003 rookie campaign. He flew to Brazil and did the paperwork there. Here is something more current: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/nene/index.html?nav=page
Exactly! Why should we be surprised? It's what the MARKET will bare here. Big men get BIG deals. Now we get to see Kmart shoveled out of town for 30 cents on the dollar.
http://www.nba.com/nuggets/news/nuggets_portugues.html The Nuggets see Brazil as a great market for superstar athletes. They have a Brazilian athlete with one name. Brazilian athletes with one name are marketing icons. The Nuggets think that he's the key to them selling lots of jerseys in Brazil. They wanted Ronaldinho, but he was locked up by Barcelona.
I'd much rather have Nene than Dalembert. $60 mil is ridiculous, but sadly that's market value. Dalembert, Adonal Foyle, Erick Dampier all got ridiculous contracts as well. I'm actually fine with this signing. You wish. Eddie will be a Nug next season. I imagine the team is going with a Nene, Camby, Najera, Evans rotation with a fifth big man thrown in for depth (Elson?). K-Mart's as good as gone. Don't necessarily believe what you read in the papers.
You and the Nuggets know Nene better than us Rocket fans. I still don't see it. It will be very interesting to see what you guys do to unload K-Mart. I realize Nene is better than Dalembert but neither guy is worth $60MM. Neither strikes me as dedicated to improving themselves.
I don't this guy is worth the money. He hasn't really proven anything to me that shows he deserves it....but that's not saying much when the NBA has gotten to the point that one good year can make you millions for the next 5 with a blown up contract....it's getting crazy.
I agree neither is worth $60 mil. I just know that's what the market gives them. I was fully expecting we'd have to pay $10 mil a year for Nene heading into this off-season. If it means we can trade K-Mart for a 2, I'm fine with paying him that much.
