Milwauke wants to get rid of Magliore because he is a FA next year and will bolt, while they want to start Bogut there this year, back him up with the cheaper Gadzuric, and put Villanueva at the four. Their only concern is how well Villanueva will adapt to the four and if they need another big to help. This, of course, makes Howard attractive, while Alston is attractive because they now only have Williams at the one. The only problem is why in their right mind they would deal an expiring contract such as Magliore's to be saddled with bad contracts in Howard and Alston. The players make sense, but the deal doesn't. Jeffries would fit perfectly for us and they seem to be pretty far apart on their negotiations, but I'm not sure who they would want in return. Howard would be logical, but what else do we have to sweeten the pot? They don't need a one with Arenas, they don't need an combo guard off the bench with Daniels there, and we don't have anyone in the post to offer them. It would take Howard plus an unprotected #1 and maybe the rights to Spanoulis to get Jeffries in a sign-and-trade, but is he worth it? I agree that our four spot is less troublesome than our five. Howard, Battier, Hayes, and even Novak give us a versatile rotation there, but Yao can't put in 40 minutes a game, Mutombo is really looking bad, and Swift was our third center for uptempo games and emergency situations. I think we need another body back there. Lorenzen Wright is an option that doesn't bother me, but not for the full MLE. If we can use the large exception on James, maybe get Banks on a sign-and-trade for Alston, then split our MLE on Wright and Spanoulis, I'd call it a day and a rather succesful one at that.
1st. Duncan played center in the playoffs, and since they lost both of their other true decent centers (Nazr, Rasha) Duncan is going to further have tio play center. As for playing the other WC playoff PFs including KG, Dirk, Josh Howard (when Dallas goes small), Marion, Diaw, Odom, maybe AK47--I think Battier is an excellent choice. Only the Clips, with Brand and Kaman, would Battier not be a good option against (Brand probably just way too strong), against KG and Dirk, though tall, you want quickness before size. In trading Swift for Battier I think it is pretty clear we want shooting and spacing moreso than a 4/5 type around Yao. Magloire is even less of a 4 than Swift is, so I don't see him making sense realistically. Besides a lot of teams will offer more for Magloire than Howard and change I am fine with Deke and Howard picking up the back-up C minutes. I'd like Jeffries but I don't see how we could land him unless it was with Battier in a 1 for 1 swap.
I'd rather leave Spanoulis parked in Europe another season and steal Anthony Parker from the Raptors, and also snag Wright, if we could. Old Man Rock turned me on to Parker in this thread http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=115011&page=4&pp=20&highlight=Anthony+Parker and Parker is looking to play in the NBA again, after being considered the top Euroleague player for the last few years. 6'6" and 215 lbs., he'd be great coming off our bench at the 2 spot. Check this out- http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1394 and http://www.euroleague.net/plantillas/jugador.jsp?id=AOW courtesy of Old Man Rock. He's looking for a portion of the MLE, not the whole thing. If James signs with the TE, we should seriously consider the guy, I think.
Deckard - Just curious. In the links OMR provided, did you notice Anthony Parker was born in 1975? He's 31 YO. Does that change your opinion?
No, it doesn't. I knew his age, but think he's a guy who could have a real impact for the $$ we'd be looking at (for 3 years at a portion of the MLE), fills a need, has a ton of experience, and seems to do the intangible things that $Ball people really like. In fact, I don't know if $Ball has been applied to players in the Euroleague publically (I don't doubt that it's being done by teams who believe in it), but if it has, I'd love to see how Parker rates.
The majority here wouldn't want Antoine Walker, White Chocolate, Rasheed Wallace and Gary Payton and in fact Billups wasn't to popular when Detroit first got him either. They all have rings now as backups or role players. If they think Randolph can help, go for it. Randolph's got range to 15-18 feet. Good enough I would think for a PF.
Zach Randolph is better than any power forward we have on our team point blank.i cant beleive some of you people dont want randolph( and/or his contract) on our team. who cares about zach's troubled past? he better than howard.
Juwan Howard is fine.. we can't get EVERYONE... just get some decent bench players I think we should sign Wesley. he can be a jon barry type player for us on the bench
Well, sure he is a better player than Howard, but the price tag and the negativity he might bring to the team would prove too detrimental. It's never just an issue of who is better, but who is more affordable, who fits best with the team, and who has the most bang for his buck. It's hard to argue that someone like Randolph is worth the effort and price, at least not at this stage.
Didn't that use to be Jayson Williams nickname, or is that who youre talking about? well.. this thread dosen't really matter anymore, tmac said that battier will probably be our starting 4, and tmac is always right. except about the swift thing..
Well, he is a 20 / 10 guy. Not saying that stats are everything but they are a pretty good indicator of a guys ability.
I think we should've kept Swift for at least one more season. He really wasn't that bad as everyone makes him out to be. And he was fairly cheap! But yeah, I also agree that we need to try and get Cato back.
Zach Randolph is the Stephon Marbury of power forwards - except unlike Marbury, Randolph can't seem to stay out of the backseat of a squad car. So basically you've got all of the ego, ball hogging, stat padding and losing history of Marbury but with off the court issues to boot! I think I'll pass. Incidentally, has his brother shot anyone in his presence lately?
does anyone know when Chris Anderson is let back into the league?? and when he does, will he be a free agent? if so, we should go after him
Honestly, I just don't think Randolph is a fit for the team at all because 1. His salary: he makes the max. With Yao and Tracy already on board at the max, adding him likely means you have very few dollars to spend on the rest of the roster due to Les Alexanders quite rationational unwillingness to pay the luxury tax. 2. His game: He has some talent, but it's talent ill fitted for the Rockets. Basically, he's a slightly upgraded version of Juwan. Can hit the midrange shots, has a postup game (which will likely be useless since Yao rightfully gets 90% of the postup touches), can score, but not very efficiently (see his FG% over the last couple of seasons, and more to the point see how many shots a game he takes vs. the points he scored). He had one season of 10 rpg, but his rebounding numbers have gone down since then, partly due to injuries. He is not a shot blocker and isn't particularly good at defense. Another player in the Juwan/Mo Taylor vein.. maybe with better rebounding, but not what the team needs. __________________________________________________________ Tyson Chandler: Love his game, hate the contract. He's Chuck Hayes, 1/2 foot taller, and the Chuckster's style of play helps the team. Great rebounder, active body... little offense, but who cares because as long as he crashed the offensive board, he wont' hurt the team there. The question though, is whether it's worth 10+ mil per year for 5 more years to acquire Tall Chuck Hayes, given the financial contraints. __________________________________________________________ To me, the first priority on the PF fron is to move Juwan's contract. He's just not that useful for this roster. A team that needs his post scoring would make much better use for him. Rockets should explore either getting a shorter contract or a player with similar or even bigger contract but can fit better with this team. Next, they should look for guys who fits with the rest of the roster... guys who make a reasonable salary but produces... guys who make hustle plays (but doesn't suck on offense like Ryan Bowen), can either rebound, or shoot the 3 ball... given what's possible available in a trade for via FA signing, some of the guys I'd look hard at are: Jarron Collins Kelvin Cato (if his body is still in one piece) Nick Collison Brian Cardinal (yes that Brian Cardinal, he's good when healthy) Reggie Evans All these guys woudl make a lot more sense to me than the bigger named (and likely bigger salaried) guys like Randolph, Gooden, Wilcox, Murphy, etc.
Nice thinking Marsarinian! I woudn 't care to give up Alston, if we could sign Banks and Magloire! I 'm not sure if we need to throw a draf pick in this trade and keeping Bogans and Head to play back up SG 's is also nice. They only two guys, in your starting line up, I also would trade are Bowen and Deke. The question is, which team would sign those two and what can we get instead?
I can see where this is going. I'm betting that Van Gundier has a whole slew of stats ready to go which shows that Randolph is highly inefficient and way overpaid. Somebody is going to mention Randolph as a 20/10 guy and then those stats are going to quickly be pasted into a reply. Who's going to take the bait?
