I need some help with finding a cool, nice sushi place that will also work as a good venue for holding a mixer type event. I am trying to put together an alumni mixer (UTSA) in the Galleria or Midtown area, but I am not as familiar with sushi places in Houston. Anyone that can help with locations and maybe contacts, would be helpful. Thanks in advance guys!
I think you're looking for Uptown Sushi. Its a trendier sushi restaruant for that type of stuff. Expensive but decent.
How many people are you expecting? Miyako on Kirby might be good. Good sushi, convenient location and they have a separate, dining area you might be able to reserve.
How about Kona Grill in the Galleria? http://www.konagrill.com/ They have a nice reverse happy hour that starts at 9pm and their sushi and drinks are good.
You should try Crave Sushi in Midtown, they give out free drinks for the ladies from 5 - 7 on Wednesdays. I took my GF there and she especially liked the specialty drinks.
CRAVE sushi has the worst & most overpriced sushi i've ever tried in houston. any of the following places are better than CRAVE, i vouch for them from personal experience: Miyako, Azuma, Sushi King, Blue Fish, Banzai. i've heard things about Uptown Sushi & Oiishii (sp?) but haven't tried them, yet. i've never felt more disappointed and cheated when leaving a restaurant - any restaurant, period - than when i left CRAVE last month. my first and last time i'll ever step in there, again.
Great leads, thanks guys! I will look into a few of these spots. Anyone with more ideas or thoughts, keep them coming.
Soma in the Washington ave area is a pretty hot spot with decent sushi and a good atmosphere. The have a private upstairs area that would be good for hosting an event. http://www.somasushi.com/
you have to put parking into consideration also whether you want a more quite cozy place or more of a loud rowdy club atmosphere
forgot to mention RA sushi - i've been there twice, and was not totally impressed. with the food, that is. the decor of the place is nice, as one of those see-and-be-seen places, but the food wasn't really good at all. you're paying for the place, not the food, at RA. and parking in the Highland Village area is impossible.
