Well whatever school you decide on. Don't do this... Harvard Rejects Applicants It Says Hacked Tue Mar 8, 1:04 PM ET Top Stories - Reuters BOSTON (Reuters) - Harvard Business School said on Tuesday it is rejecting applications from 119 would-be students who it says hacked into a Web site to learn if they were accepted at the Ivy League university ahead of the official notification. "This behavior is unethical at best -- a serious breach of trust that cannot be countered by rationalization," Kim Clark, dean of Harvard Business School, said in a statement. "Any applicant found to have done so will not be admitted to this school." Harvard said 119 applicants had hacked into Virginia-based ApplyYourself, a company that manages Web pages used by students to apply to roughly 300 different universities. "We know that 119 applicants hacked into the system -- and we know their names," said Jim Aisner, a spokesman for Harvard Business School. Aisner declined to comment on how many of the 119 applicants would have been accepted at the school had they not broken into the ApplyYourself Web site. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...=564&e=7&u=/nm/20050308/ts_nm/life_harvard_dc
you really have a nice dilemma. i went to undergrad at UT and i absolutely loved it. that being said, i learned more in a semester abroad as an exchange student than i did while in austin. there is sooooo much more to an education than grades, rankings, connections, etc. i guess in the business world those connections can be essential but i agree with JayZ, gaining unique perspectives could prove far more valuable in the long run. anyway, both good schools, good luck.
Thanks for all your replies. I appreciate your unbiased replies. Looks like the poll came out pretty even. Its gonna be a tough decision.
It would be a very easy decision for me - Michigan. Better school that will carry weight nationally (and in Texas). It will be a new place for you, which often means greater learning experience. You can get a job anywhere - as mentioned, undergraduate doesn't really matter as far as where you want to settle and Michigan is a stronger name. In general, if money is not an issue, go to the better school. The only thing that should change that is if you really want to stay in Texas for college - if you have a sick relative or something. UT is only winning this poll because it was posted where most of us live in Texas.
Michigan is the 2nd best public school in the land, and is pretty damn prestigious. I work with tons of Michigan alumni, as my company likes to recruit there. The common theme I hear is that the women at Texas are a million times better than the pasty white chicks they have in Ann Arbor. Anyways, you can't go wrong with either choice. Personally, I would choose Texas because Austin's a badass place to spend the next four years, and that Michigan just isn't worth the extra $20K/yr.
I went to UT for two years and I'll have to say Michigan. Was my time bad at UT? Not at all but I just think if I had such a badass time while still in Texas...what kind of chaos would ensue if i was OUTSIDE of Texas? A little change of scenery might be a great experience for you. If I had the opportunity, I'd take it. Not shortchanging UT at all though.
Have you visited both? If not, a visit to each should help you decide. Michigan's the superior school, and it's really pretty badass. Michigan is what Texas wants to be(And very possibly could be) in the near future...Great academics, sports, town...really just a great all-around experience. Weather's probably a con, but I wouldn't really consider that a major factor, as it's something you will adjust to. I'm not completely sure, but I think Michigan is considered superior in business, while Texas is probably the better choice for engineering. I didn't vote in the poll...too many factors that I have no idea about to weigh. Keep in mind that the Texas Business Honors Program is open to sophomores and is on par with Michigan's undergraduate business program(Not sure if Michigan's is open to sophomores or not).
I'd go with Michigan of the two. I had to decide between schools, and for me going to the better school outweighed the fact that it wasn't in Texas. Just get back to Texas as soon as you can. I sure will.
I'd go with UT..because I'm biased. And the idea of networking with Texas people because most likely you will probably work in Texas.. The only thing for Michigan is that it's 22 compared to 46.. Hmm..networking in college? Like major networking with an abundance of people? Any examples of helpful people met in college and how networkign occurred? Good luck franchiseboi
He wants to go to college, not high school. In all seriousness though, my mother went to U of H(Cougar High) so I have a partial affinity for the school.
Ain't no high like a cougar high. and in regards to the question posed in this thread.. i think you should take the brilliant advice of the UT students and alums and make your decision based entirely on a football game.
