Why is San Diego not on the list?

Exactly what I was thinking. Start planning for early retirement >>>> city life. Vacations and financial freedom are what to strive for.

Life is not like new girl, how to make it in America, friends, or any tv show centered around city life.

Sure, if you like sh!tty weather for 60% of the time. I could absolutely live there for half the year though, summers are amazing.

Then why do people in Houston still work until their 60s? By your logic, you should either work in NYC until your 60s or work in Houston and retire by 45.

pretty good list... I thought of the same cities but here is my order

San Diego (I'm so biased here)
    Seattle
    Denver
    Austin
    Boston
and I'd add San Fran to the mix even tho it's expensive as hell

Seattle has a moderate climate. Summers are great and winters aren't that bad, in fact Houston has worst winters than Seattle does.

Seattle in the winter flat out sucks. Cold, rainy, and it gets dark super fast. Summer's are amazing though.

I'm a fan of Austin. Great food everywhere, always something to do, cheap relative to Seattle, LA, SF, NY, and San Diego.

Houston has much better food than Austin. If you like to travel Houston has many more options. Unless you are going to Cali or new york might as well just stay in Houston.

Gray, cold, windy, rainy is not my idea of good weather.

After living through a few Seattle winters now, you are right about it being gray and rainy. However, I think you are off on the cold relative to a lot of other US cities, it has only gotten below freezing 2 times in the past 2 years with only a dusting of snow. Also, while there are a few windstorms that come through in the winter months, I would hardly characterize Seattle as windy.

Huh?? No logic involved. Just math

All I said was that living in the suburbs will save you more money in the long run. The money spent living near a city could be spent towards retirement or future expenses. The power of compound interest:

The more you start saving now the better.

    Avoid Baltimore if you're black.

My family is from Pittsburgh. I'd skip that city for sure, even tho I'm a huge Steelers fan. Especially if you don't like snow, f that.

If I were you, I'd strongly consider the following:
NYC, Denver (you get snow but man, cant beat the outdoor activities), Seattle, Portland, SF if you're in tech, Chicago.
