If I had to guess, RM95 prolly just had a bad day when he started this thread (or on his period). He's probably OK with his current job now. RM95 - I can tell you aren't the type who belongs in the corporate world, you should consider starting your own business or something. You aren't going to be happy in any corporate situation. In your eyes, nobody will ever respect you or pay you enough.
It's going up and down. I'm currently working towards getting into an alternative certification program for teaching, so I'm just going to bite the bullet here for the next year (maybe less). Yeah, I guess I couldn't make it in the corporate world if people there are allowed to get away with sleeping at their desk as well as show a complete lack of understanding of their job which has caused several of our clients to threaten to fire us, not to mention causing the rest of the people in her group extra work because of this. All because their uncle is the CFO. And these aren't mom and pop clients either, I'm talking clients in the top 10 of the Fortune 500.
I’m sorry to highjack this old thread but I don’t know where else to put my frustration and disappointment in what has begun to turn into an ineffective post graduation job hunt. I’m graduating in less than two weeks and I have yet to line up a career job. It has taken me 5 long years to graduate but mind you I have been engaged in extracellulars; studying abroad two different semesters (Spain & Brasil which were both paid by my school); Graduating with a dual major (BBA in economics & International Business); Participated in full time internship every summer since my sophomore year (Houston Astros, National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization, and a few others). While I feel that I have done more than most during my collage tenure I still feel that I didn’t fully exert my efforts towards self-improvement like my father always encouraged (not joining toastmaster, not study more than just enough to average 3.1GPA, etc)… So Fast-forward to today, I’m in the mist of my job search and I have come to the realization that I want to work in the Energy Industry. I have come to this epiphany recently by discovering that I have a passion for this sector. Specifically I would like to one day be involved with the pipeline trading sector of this industry. Because Of this I have set out to look for different opportunities within this sector. I recently came across a pipeline trader development program that is offered by both BP & Shell, so I applied. I was so happy to find an opportunity that was exactly what I wanted and what I see myself doing in the future. But the reason Im disappointed is because today I got an email from shell that they have gone over my application and they do not want to call me in for an interview. I have always felt that I have a strong resume that open many doors for me, and once I get that chance I feel that I can sell myself. But Today Im down, I just fell guilty that I didn’t do more during my college days. I guess there is the possibility that BP will like to meet with me, but I feel very negative considering I have been rejected by shell. Sorry guys about the long rant but I need to get these things off my chest so that I can refocus (im at work, its my last week)
i know you've all been waiting for an update... it's really amazing what bringing in new management who cares about making one's job more efficient as well making it easier to satisfy clients can do. today marks the happiest i've ever been at this job. two months ago they brought in a new vp and manager with the sole purpose of acheiving those aforementioned goals and their plan has lead to a direct career path at this company, one that is doing very well despite the current economic concerns. instead of listening to placate us, they're listening to help. amazing how that works. hope everyone has a great weekend.
Do you work for Datacert? I used to work in the Corporate Support department. what new VP did they bring in? who got replaced? you must be from law firm support. Is Geoff still there?
What kind of qualifications are you guys looking for. Computer forensics sounds like fun. I am currently an MCSA 2003: Security, CompTIA Security + certified and CCNA Security Certified. Thanks in advance.
no one really got replaced, it was more of an addition by addition. geoff is still there, but he is solely over the corporate support side of things now. i think i know who you are...your first name start with a d?
