I have Bank One, recently merged with Chase, and have really liked using their services. I have thought about switching to Bank of America since they are everywhere but havent because I like the service I get with Bank One. It probably doesnt hurt that I am in pretty good with one of the bank managers and all I have to do is call him to get hooked up with whatever I need.
What is the deal with ATMS? When you can use credit and debit cards? I have used ATM one time during the last six month, to take money out for a trip to New York where so many small stores only accept cash. Is Huston like that too?
I will always use Wells Fargo in some capacity. Several years ago, a pool hall in Austin "accidentally" gave my card to someone else. The next day, there was close to $500 in charges on my card at the mall. Wells Fargo printed out all my current activity and asked me to go through and mark which ones were not mine. I had all the money back in my account within 48 hours.
When you are looking at all the FREE ads about banks be sure to read the fine print. Almost all of them require a minimum daily balance of $1500. Chase just sent out a letter outlining their new policy. They do allow you to count any outstanding consumer loans and credit card debt in something they call your "total relationship with us" but the 'relationship' level for free stuff is $5000. I too would just prefer to end the use of cash at all, I charge my Starbucks on my debit card. I bet I save a $100 a year in change I would otherwise lose. What is it Chris Rock had to say about ATM's at 3 o'clock in the morning? Ya don't see no white people?
Speak for yourself....I know dealers that would gladly take your credit cards, as well as your car, television, girlfriend.....
Funny me and my wife use 90% cash and 10% check card...I think cash is easier & allows for much better budgeting. It is pretty simple when the cash is gone that lets you kow you can't buy any more stuff. Took some getting used to but works like a charm now. Just my $.02.
lol, that's nice and all, but how does that work when you cash your whole paycheck at the local convenient store.
Well if you live check to check I guess that is true. Seems like for more sophisticated budgeters they would be better off using their statements to track and adjust their budgets. I'm not saying I am that sophisticated, I still use the hope and worry method.
Speaking of banks.....does anyone know how much Wells Fargo charges to stop payment on a check? My car payment never made it through the mail and I need to do a payment over the phone now but want to stop payment on the lost check. I've been waiting hoping it shows up.....but it's been almost a month now
I don't live paycheck to paycheck. I have all of my income/expenses tracked for the past 5 years using Quickbooks & use Excel spreadsheets for budgeting, I know I am a geek about it but I am an accountant so I have an excuse...lol. The cash system works for us.
I NEVER use cash and exclusively use credit cards, even if its just to purchase a 2 liter bottle of diet coke for $0.99. This way, I can keep track of all of my expenditures and better analyze my spending habits for purposes of putting together an accurate budget.
