I envy you all. A lot. I've studied marketing and market research, and speak 2 languages (well, I guess many people in Houston speaks spanish, but...).

    A shame.

A friend of mine used to work for the Rockets business office and from what he told me, it isn't at all glamorous as we outsiders picture it. Picture your typical corporate business environment then throw in lower than average (for the position) pay and there you go.

No major freebies, or perks, and you're stuck in an office building.

He said the lower than standard pay is due to the fact they can get away with it. People want to work there because its "The Rockets" and therefore get people willing to work for less.

I cant confirm as I never really worked for them, but this is from a legit source who's been there 1.5 years before he quit.

In this market, though, sometimes less pay is better than no pay. Especially for a recent college grad.

Many companies in the Houston area have corp boxes and give out discounted tickets to local games - Rockets and Astros especially. Don't sell yourself short for perks. In the end you gots to get paid. :)

Bingo. Never mix your hobbies with work just because it's remotely related.

If you love to play basketball perhaps you shouldn't try to join the marketing department at a basketball team. You won't be playing or watching. You'll be doing marketing work (most likely with an a-hole manager) and never see the basketball side of things.

Only mix your hobbies and work if they are directly related OR you are gunning to be the guy in charge (like Morey).
