You can go to Home Depot and find plenty of Swolys there.

Use http://www.redbeacon.com/ to find one in your area. This site is run by Home Depot and the handymen will give you a competitive quote via email. The price I got was good and the Handyman did a good job. As I recall if the handymen get predominantly negative feedback they get blacklisted from the site. Hope this helps.

A lot of out of work construction guys with tons of experience. They had cushy jobs paying them $$$ before the economy tanked and they were out of a job. Pride won't allow them to take less.

It's supply and demand. You don't have to pay them what they ask. Make a counter-offer. If they don't take it, move on to the next guy. Also remember that these are cash jobs, which equate to at least a 25% bump in net pay unless they're paying taxes, which I highly doubt.

I could do the pressure washing myself, but not the sanding and staining. I'd just screw it up. Would rather hire someone who would do it right.

No ****! We had a great one, pretty much did all of the electrical work for new fixtures when we moved in last year, had scaffolding all down the staircases for chandeliers, built a nice pergola, lots and lots of other stuff...all for $25 an hour. Then all of sudden he'd bring a young guy with him to install like a light. 2 x $25 for an hour job. THEN we recommended him to friends in River Oaks, Tanglewood, etc. Now when we call he quotes ungodly rates and can never figure out a set rate. All of our friends have now dropped him and he's calling us back for work.

**** off. We got you paid, we were pretty much your first real deal and we helped you make more money with MORE jobs you couldn't find, but it went to your head and now you're mowing lawns. Suck it, Juan. Hope you enjoyed all of that FREE stuff we gave you from the new home that we could have sold.

There's a shortage of dependable contractors out there. So, they can charge pretty crazy rates and get away with it.

yeah... there's a price to be paid for having things convenient. Used to be a man had to go to the store to buy himself a pitcher of milk. Yeah..but men got lazy. They wanted that milk delivered right to the door. Only problem was the guy delivering that milk was ****ing your wife.

And now you got your handyman. And the milk man's come back.

    Lalo Rodriguez 713-213-6045

Did some good plumbing work for me, but he also does everything else. He is a little hard to get a hold of, but I had a good experience with him.

I need a chandelier installed. There's a living social deal today for two hours of electrical work for $99. Sound like a good deal?
