go stand by a car lot. and offer people 1500 bucks as they drive in... ok maybe not, but a lot of people with 90s cars are only offered like 500-1000 for their car in a trade in..... We were actually offered money when we were leaving once, we didnt sale it to the person but people do try to buy cars that way apparently.. the car lot may not like it..
I was offered 1500-2000 for a '97 Maxima with 130k miles on it by most dealers I talked to when I went to trade it in. There are people willing to part with pretty good and reliable transportation for that much money simply to get a new car. I took mine to CarMax and got $4800 instead. But you're right, I doubt the car lots would like it.
I'd be on the lookout for a late 70s/early 80s model Mercedes 240 D .. you should be able to find one in that price range.. They're slower than mollasses.. but built like a sherman tank.. they last forever..
drofdunk. exactly.. the last vehicles my family traded off we got small amounts for. I always figured car max would give you about the same as the other dealers since they have to make a profit.. my dad actually had a nissan truck. he used it for work and drove a lot all over houston etc. with 350,000 miles on it. that he had people several times stop him and want to buy it to take to mexico.. the time we saw people getting stopped was at the nissan dealership.. people that knew nissans get great millage.. the guys were spanish looking to get as many as possible to take to mexico... his made it 350,000 with no major troubles... i got an infiniti over the summer hoping to have good luck with it as well...
the car lot idea may not be a good one, but definitely check around to see if anyone you know is planning on trading a car in anytime soon.. you may be a able to get a decent car if they dealership isn't going to offer them anymore than 1500... i'd rather sale mine to someone than give it cheap to the dealership for them to just mark up and sale
