well that's the game. the difference has been davis and thomas have taken and made much more difficult shots than our inside guys have had and we've missed everything. and look at lsu's last layup, up and under two guys while we can't hit anything inside. so ****ing ****ty to lose the game this way. paulino stupidly gets stripped, buckman throws it away like he's never played basketball, and then davis of all people strokes a 3, while our big guys can't make a 5 footer to save their lives. you can't win when their big guys shoot that much better than yours.
wtf buckman, don't take that shot, we're only down 5. just get a good shot. and paulino should've taken that easy jumper once he got it back.
what an embarrassing finish. playing like a bunch of girls, just throwing up 3's everywhere like there's 10 seconds left. gibson with a terrible airball, buckman with a bad 3, paulino with a bad 3 that got blocked, and then abrams with another airball. pathetic. and why the hell are we pressing. we have no idea how to and we just give thomas easy shots. so close to the final 4 and blown by a horrible day for LA.
Poor coaching job, poor execution. I don't know what else to say. Game shouldn't have even gone to OT (LSU should have won).
for as good as rick barnes is, i sometimes wonder if he even coaches certain things. like penetrating a zone, or pressing, or inbounds plays. and then he tries to implement them in the game and they aren't even close to working.
guards have gotta learn to not knock the damn ball away from big men. LA had that rebound but gibson stupidly knocks it away from him right to davis, and you could see it coming a mile away. we could've potentially hit a 3 with more than 35 seconds left after that rebound.
Aldridge reminds me a lot of Eddie Griffin. He shys away from physical play, and looks to have little heart. He really hurt his draft stock today. He may slip to where the Rockets pick.
it really boiled down to whether texas big men would respond to the physical and aggressive play of lsu's big men. they didn't. i think it is obvious lamarcus needs to come back next year and develop post moves that get him to the rim for better shots. that turnaround jumper is nice and all but you have to be physical too and be strong on the block.
yeah i don't think you slip from potential #1 to like #10 with one game, especially following a 26 and 13 game. it would've been nice to have the uw/uconn refs for this game to actually call some fouls. letting the game be a wrestling match where thomas and davis could mug with impunity certainly played much more into lsu's hands than into ours. it's like playing a&m with lenient refs, it's tough to beat them when they get to play their way.
That might have been the worst game we've played all year, even worse than that Duke and Tennessee losses. It's amazing that we pushed the game to OT.
come back, when you'll probably go top 3? who would do that? it's not like you have to come in to the league ready made to dominate or anything. if the nba is ready to draft you top 3, you're certainly ready to make the leap.
Doubt it. He'll wow scouts and GMs in his workouts and get draft really high based on his talent and physical tools. The good thing about huge "potential" guys like Aldridge and Gay is that they push down more NBA-ready players down lower in the draft. Of course there might not be that many NBA-ready guys either.
