wow this thread is 5 pages long who knew there were so many ut baseball fans; or is that bigtexxx enemies................
It's really more than that. It's 10% of their scholarships. Since there's only 11.7 to go around, almost nobody gets a full ride since bigtime college programs will have ~30 guys on the team.
How true. I've been a UT fan for several decades and cannot recall the school doing so well in so many major sports. Is there any other school that even comes close?
You and Rocket fan are hard on VInce Young. I thought y'all were unbiased? A potential loss of 1.7 scholarships and 87 posts. Highlarious.
gr8-1.. nah, Vince is an exciting player. I don't want him on the Texans because I don't want to draft a QB. But if I wanted to draft a QB, I'd take a long look at Vince. Plus my guy is Cutler so I'm naturally going to pump him up over Vince... just like Texas fans pump Vince up over Leinart despite most people having Matt rated as a better prospect. I think Vince will be a good pro player, I just think this board all ranks Vince over Matt because of bias TOWARDS Texas. If the Texans were going to draft a QB, how can you not consider Matt at all and call this board unbiased. And I don't know about other people, but my concern for integrity in the NCAA goes far beyond the Longhorns, I'm much more concerned with the SEC than the Longhorns. I will point out cheating etc among all teams, not just Texas
Cool. ~$60,000 more in the scholarship fund for me. And our baseball team will probably still be in participating in the CWS in next couple years. And this scholarship loss hasn't even been confirmed. Sorry RF, but this moral high horse argument just hasn't been applied by you or bigtexxx or anyone else for that matter. PS - bigtexxx, get over Ricky Williams. If you're interested in wash out RBs, where is all your disdain for Maurice Clarett, considering his role in tOSU's national championship, his relationship with tOSU boosters and his subsequent violent actions?
Financially, how much does this hurt each of the thirty players? Keep in mind, most of these guys are fairly well off. bigtexx is making a mountain out of a molehill again. I'm just curious, what school do you root for?
gr-8, I have no idea how much it hurts each player because I'm not sure how much the current tuition is.. nor am I sure how UT splits it up.. some schools have it more equal to each player.. while some have a few guys with near full rides.. and the rest pretty equal.. One year, I'm sure the impact will be minimal.. .over many years it could have a greater impact... I'm not sure if the penalties increase or not.. I am a Vanderbilt fan, so if I've promoted Cutler.. it was because I am a fan of his.. not because I'm against Vince. Vince will be an exciting player, and most teams would love to have him. As far as who I root for, Vanderbilt is the only school I actively have an interest in.. I like to see Texas do well and actually had a Longhorn shirt back in the day when I was thinking of going there.. I root for Rice because I believe that they do things the right way.. I'd love to see the University of Houston do well just because they are in my hometown... and I hope A&M starts to put things together on the field again just because the Texas vs Texas A&M games are always enjoyable.. other than those there are a few schools like Stanford and others that I have repesct for. nikestrad.. not true, you will see that I posted an article the other day about high schools that are basketball schools and not accredited etc.. that was not about the longhorns... The issues usually come up because longhorn threads are posted on this board about the topic, the majority of my postings are in threads that are started by someone else... however, the majority of my discussions are about SEC schools, etc and are not on this board. Had this thread been about any other school in the country, I would make the same comments. I'm not even in the state of Texas at the moment, and the University of Texas falls under the category of a school I generally root for..
oh and nike.. start a thread about the SEC and you will see me making texas look like angels compared to the SEC. Texas doesn't make my top 20 list of schools that have questionable athletic integrity.. probably not top 30 either.. they aren't the team in Texas that has been given the "death penalty"
Here's the update. The Longhorns were one of only two baseball teams in the state that incurred this loss of scholarships (Tech being the other). UT-Austin had plenty of infractions in other sports, but avoided penalties. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/sports/stories/longhorns/03/2ncaa.html
Several colleges in Texas will be hit hard by the new NCAA penalties. Stephen F. Austin State University's football team will lose 6.07 scholarships and Texas Tech University will lose 1.17 baseball scholarships. Prairie View A&M was penalized in five sports, including loss of 5.31 football scholarships. Texas State University-San Marcos was penalized by losing of one-third of a men's track scholarship, two roster spots on the men's basketball team as a "head count penalty." Texas A&M University was one of eight colleges whose APR scores were not reported Wednesday because they have not completed the process for determining penalties. ---hey texx i love this stat----- Rice Tuition: $30,000 (full-time) Required student fees: $1,746 Starting Salary Average starting salary: $74,108 Texas 2004-2005 Expenses In-State Tuition: $14,606 (full-time), $19,200 (part-time) Starting Salary Average starting salary: $77,403 Hook em baby
I ask for what degree they are because if they are for MBA that wouldn't surprise me.. everyone knows UT has one of the top MBA programs in the nation.. as well as top law schools.
MBA smack: it's all ya got. Seriously a weak comeback, since Rice has such a young graduate business school. I've never even defended Rice's business school - I went there for undergrad, LOL
to be honest, Texas MBA program is ranked far enough ahead of Rice that I'd have expected more than a 3k salary difference to start..
