the problem is...he's not picking it. i agree it would suck for tech...but at this point the magic computers have it down to OU and UT. we'll see what happens IF tech can get an IMPRESSIVE win over BU. (sic 'em)

    Right.

    Go Bobcats.

    Wait. What?

UT isn't going to the NC if either team beats Mizzou.

    Book it.

So Fatty, can you demonstrate some of your awesome college football knowledge by predicting which second-tier bowl UT is going to? And then please try to describe any possible scenario that leads to the given bowl?

    Thanks!

Let's assume that OSU beats OU. Tech beats Missouri. For the Texas fans to argue that they should be in the NC game, the creators of 45-35.com would have to ignore the head to head between them and Tech. At that point, they would be picking and choosing when head to head should matter.

If Mizzou wins, book it for the longhorns. Im hoping OU loses to OSU, then TTU goes to BIG12 championship only to lose to Mizzou. Then we'd be guaranteed a spot in the NC

Again - he's not arguing that it SHOULD happen, just that there's a pretty good chance it *would* happen. Tech has the two 1-AA games on its schedule which is going to hurt it. The computers will be relatively close, but Texas probably ends up ahead because of that. So the open question will be whether the pollsters push Tech up from 7 to 2.

So lets say OU loses and Tech goes to the title game and beats Mizzou.

Now do you think t he voters are willing to put Tech in the finals after watching them get their ass kicked by 40 points? Or would they rather put in a team that lost by 1 on the road and beat the very OU team that killed Tech. Might also throw in that Texas beat Mizzou and OSU as well and had a less-"cupcake" non conference schedule than TTU who faced 2 FCS teams I believe.

If OU loses this weekend, I'd book Texas to make it to the NC

I've mentioned previously that, oddly enough, UT is the only one who is guaranteed to get a BCS bid. But they have little to no chance of the NC.

I say right now it's a 30-70 chance. 30% UT will make it

So you've mentioned previously that Texas is both guaranteed a BCS bowl and is headed to a second-tier bowl. Way to cover the bases.

2nd tier related to the NC.

You aren't that bright, are you?

BCS bowl games are second tier? I guess that makes USC and the loser of the Bama/Florida game a second tier team

Personally I would rather see Boise State or Utah in a title game than OK or Texas. But it will probably be OU vs Alabama/Fla winner

Anyone else want to bet bigtexxx shows his face in this thread after OU beats OSU to gloat?

The guy disappeared after it became apparent that UT would destroy ATM while being the only person on earth to say that UT let ATM "hang" with them in the 1st half.

Alright, I'll try to explain this in words that you and Fatty can understand:

    1) I never said this is what should happen, I said it is what WILL happen.

    2) The head to head argument is coming into play because both teams have a similar resume and played a somewhat comparable OOC schedule.

    3) Tech played TWO 1-AA teams this year and hasn't won a tough game away from home.

    4) Now, if Tech goes to the Big 12 Championship and demolishes Mizzou in what is, in effect, a home game for Mizzou, the argument becomes much more cloudy and the head to head should push it, logically, for Tech. However, this WILL NOT happen. No voter is going to put Tech anywhere near the title game after that 44 point beatdown in Norman unless there is almost no other option. That's the sad way the system works. It's not even a when you lose scenario. It's a how you lose scenario.

Not necessarily true. Currently, Tech is 4th in the CPU polls and is closer to Oklahoma than Oklahoma is to Texas. If OU lost to OSU, Tech went to the B12 Championship and beat Mizzou, they would leapfrog OU in the CPU polls and improve their average. And if Alabama beats Florida for the SEC Championship, Bama's CPU average would go up slightly and consequently cause UT's to go down slightly. I still think UT would be 2nd in the CPU polls with Tech 3rd but the margin would be closer than it is now between UT and OU.

If you assume the scenario above (OU losing, Bama beats UF), then OU and Florida drop below Tech in the human polls. If Tech wins the B12 I think they also leapfrog Penn St. and USC and would be no worse than 3rd in the human polls. That would probably give them roughly the same BCS average OU has now. While not enough to overtake UT, it would make it close.

And while I think it's unlikely, if human pollsters decided to put Tech at #2 over UT because of the head to head win and conference championship, Tech would likely leapfrog UT in the BCS too.

First off, there is no reason to be a jackass about it.

Now...if this is what happens, then the system needs to be scrapped. Similarly, if OU went in over Texas, it would be crap.

Bottom line...the damned thing is crap and needs to be overhauled.

Your original post was very donkey-like and I responded in kind.

That being said, we both agree that the system is crap and about 80% of the country agrees.
