hopefully oregon state doesnt lose another game in the pac-10 and ends up in the rose bowl instead of usc that would be awesome.
I'm hoping for this too, if nothing more than to spit the Rose Bowl Committee because they are strongly against a playoff.
Wait Cat, you think that OU could beat the undefeated Tech team and OSU and not rise above Texas? I just don't see that happening. The only hope Texas has imo is for Tech to defeat Oklahoma and then lose to Baylor, or Oklahoma beat Tech, lose to OSU and then Tech lose to Baylor as well. In the end, the only road for Texas to get to the National Title game imo, requires a Tech loss to the Bears.
Problem with that everyone knows the polls will put USC as some at large bid thus still a spot for a more desserving team. Having 2 Pac 10 teams in the BCS would be a load of crap.
That's fine with me, the BCS is going to be crap this year anyway. If Oregon State wins out, they get the automatic big to the Rose Bowl, leaving the RB Committee crying in their cereal because they won't be able to get a 1-loss USC team from right in their backyard. 2 Pac-10 teams 2 Non-BCS teams 1 of the deserving Big 12 South teams left out of it ...screw the BCS this year.
You wouldn't get 2 non BCS teams. You'd get 2 Big 12 teams, 2 SEC teams, two Pac-10 teams, ACC champion, Big East Champion, One Big 10 team, and one Non-BCS team. It's unlikely that undefeated Boise State gets into the BCS over 6th (or higher) ranked USC.
They really have no say in the matter though. Furthermore, if I were to setup a playoff system right now and you told me that either Boise State or USC would make it, I'd take USC.
As long as the groundswell of support continues to grow, that is always a good thing. Though unlikely, they can always bring an antitrust suit too.
All of the FBS conferences get a vote. It's just that there happens to be 1 more BCS conference than there is non-BCS conferences.
Texas has 2 realistic (not sure how realistic they actually are) scenarios of getting to the NC game: Tech wins out and somehow loses to Mizzou in the Big 12 Championship game, UT would likely be #2 and play for the NC against winner of Bama/Florida. This scenario isn't very likely because I don't see Tech losing to Mizzou, however, stranger things have happened. or OU beats Tech and Ok. St. to move ahead of UT in the computer rankings. The human rankings would then have to put UT ahead of OU for us to go. This is somewhat unlikely because the human voters are likely to take those late wins strongly into account. However, if OU has bad showings against Tech or Ok. St. while UT looks very strong over KU and A&M, there is a shot that the human rankings could boost us in front of OU.
If Tech defeats Oklahoma and then goes into the Big 12 title game undefeated and loses to Mizzou I still think they make it to the title game. Think Oklahoma a few years ago. This is a very slim possibility. If OU beats Tech and Ok. St they are going to get a big bump in the rankings. Wins over KU and A&M just aren't going to do anything for Texas.
I think strategy 1 is the only one that would put Texas in the national championship. OU wont win against both Tech and OSU if they have poor showings. I believe fair or not OU will pass Texas in rankings if they beat both Tech and OSU, since OU is already ahead of Texas in the coaches' poll. My honest best chance of Texas making the NC is OU to beat Tech. OSU to beat OU. Which would make Tech the big 12 championship, then Tech losing to Missouri. That way only Texas has 1 loss. But the odds of all that happening are not that good.
all anyone can do at this point is win out and let the chips lay where they fall... what would be a crying shame is to see 3 big XII teams finish in the BCS top 10 yet only two going to a BCS bowl.
The guy at burntorangenation also has some scenarios where the bcs title game is a rematch of texas tech and texas If there is chaos in the sec, like florida loses to sc and then beats bama. The voters might look to put Texas in for a rematch. If tech wins out and is the legit #1, Texas only lost on the last play of that epic game in hostile territory and the voters might respect that given no other clear choice.
That is not anywhere out of the realm of possibility. In fact, I think there's a legit chance it happens...albeit a slight one. Florida would have to blow out Alabama. What would be the alternative if that were to happen? OU & Florida would have 2 losses. Bama would have just gotten blown out. UT would just be sitting there looking pretty. USC and Penn State aren't going to jump them based on their remaining games and pathetic conferences. I think a rematch would be pretty sweet...especially in a neutral site.
