I bought it earlier today. It is much slower paced than the previous versions, but you can always increase the game speed. I like the new slam dunk contest feature. I only played it once but I like the feel and presentation.
Best BBall game ever made. However, it is not without it's flaws, no game is perfect, but after three years of next gen basketball, the competition is not even close. BTW, I love how the A.I. picks up on what you're doing if you do it a few times. I love how they run counters and how they run different people at you if you're dominating down low, but it's so fun to kick that sucker out to the right wide open player (for a change) and have him look just like, say Mike James when he shoots! Yao and TMac, along with the other superstar players are BEASTS in this game. Oh, and computer pump fakes! Ha! One more thing, Phoenix on Hall of Fame level, will stomp your ass, LMAO!
ok yall might be convincing me to get the game earlier than expected. im going to have no time to play any of these games... madden, bioshock, halo, nba2k8, tiger and others coming, waking up at 6am to get a workout in at the gym forcing me to go to bed early... i dont know what im going to do. is cloning available yet?
I just picked it up! I played a couple games.. first game Rockets vs Jazz on default mode.. and I got blown out (sorry to say). Then I played Celtics vs Sonics and the game was close till the last minute and I lost again . This game is pretty hard! Btw, Can ANYONE figure out how to shoot free throws on the PS3 version? "Tilt back whaaat?"

I bought it. Biggest gripe is the documentation (or lack thereof). It comes with a 5-page manual, and there aren't any in-game instructions either. What the hell? Apparently they revamped the gameplay and the post moves, but they don't explain anywhere how to take advantage of the new features. That's annoying.
I bought Live 08 (PS2) today, 2k8 doesn't come out until later in the month. Wow. What a shocker. It seems like every year I buy Live, and then trade it in for 2k8 a couple of weeks later. Thank you, EB! I give the Live series a chance every year, and every year they disappoint. I don't know what it is...the feel maybe, the graphics? It just doesn't seem right. Also, the gameplay feels (and looks) real jerky, the menus are slow to load, and I can't see the freaking ball! Urgh. This one's sitting in the drawer until 2k8 arrives.
Picked it up yesterday... haven't gotten to play a whole lot yet. Still have some thoughts though... Gripes: *I don't particularly like that we're back to one pass button. I felt much more in control of the passing game last year... does this annoy anyone else just a bit, or am I the only one? *I keep getting this odd glitch where I try to post up, but my player instead moves off 5 feet in the opposite direction before going into the post-up animation. What's up with that? *It seems players rarely, if ever put their hand up to contest a shot without jumping on defense anymore unless you're in lock-down D. *In practice mode, you can only use your starters for some reason. *It seems there's no way to adjust the game difficulty while in street mode. *There may be even less movement off the ball than last year, if that's possible. Apparently they want to force you to use the new features. *Trade AI still needs major work. I found I could dump Alston on Charlotte for two 1sts (I didn't, because raping the poor AI feels like cheating). *Why they don't let you assign the classic players to other teams anymore for the 2nd year running, I don't know... Praise: *The new rotation substitution system is AWESOME! Dear god, finally rotations that make sense! In previous years, I found it was too much work to sub so that rotations were realistic, so I always ended up basically doing "line changes," where I'd just trot out an entirely new 5-man backup unit. It worked okay, but obviously it was unrealistic. Now, I can allocate exactly the number of minutes I want all of my guys to get, and the computer does it for me. No way did I ever believe I'd see the day when I'd actually use auto-subbing. My god. *Lock-down D is a nice feature... it really makes the Battiers & Bowens & Wallaces of the world worth playing. *Ratings like strength, quickness, and on-ball defense were long overdue. Thank god they're finally in the game. *The new animations are excellent. Part of it is probably just that I haven't played it enough, but at the moment it seems like there are so many it looks darn-near real a lot of the time. There seem to be a lot more "intermediate" animations, if that makes sense. *The post-up game seems far less glitchy this year. I feel much more in control. *Player roles seems like a pretty cool feature, though obviously I'll need to play more than one Association game to see if they really mean anything. *Seriously... the rotation subbing system is awesome. Seriously. *Much more challenging AI than last year. I could play the the compy as a team of scrubs against a team of superstars on HOF difficulty, and I was basically never in danger of losing. This year ya really have to work to keep people from getting to the bucket on you (or getting open looks off screens, for that matter). *Superstars seem more differentiated. Last year I would dominate whether it was McGrady or JR Smith. This year it looks like JR ain't gonna get the job done.
yeah I picked up the ps2 version (still a scrub, but going to buy an xbox360 VERY soon). it's definitely worth 30 bucks. I kinda traded rafer and justin reed for al harrington. whatever, flame me for getting rid of him but id rather have a scoring sf/pf than him rotting away at the bench. sf3 still can jam it, and tmac's shot looks more like his usual shot than ever. im pretty impressed at the ps2 version. i can only imagine how badass the xbox360/ps3 versions look. 2k6 is really good, but this game takes it to a whole other level in terms of realistic play. once i get the gameplay down on this, then yeah, 82-0 season, here i come!
Do the point gaurds dominate the game like Live 07? I stopped playing when scrub gaurds were constantly getting like 40 points. I've never bought the 2K series, but I can say I'm through with the Live series, even if it has T-Mac on the cover.
Nope. In fact, for the first time ever that I can think of in a basketball game, the ball isn't inbounded to the point guard like 90% of the time. It most often goes to the best playmaker/distributor, whoever that may be. On the Jazz, that means Deron Williams. But on the Lakers, that means Odom, even though he plays power forward. On the Rockets, T-Mac seems to get an equal share of inbound passes along with whatever point is playing. It's a beautiful thing.
I like it alot so far. I've never played online before and I'm 2-1 losing to the Celtics, but beating the Hornets and Lakers. Those 2 wins were because the online player was trying to score with Chris Paul and Kobe every time so I just let the CPU guard them because my D blows.
Besides NBA 2K2 on the dreamcast. NBA 2K8 (360) imo, is the best in the series and it's finally showing in the sales. I went to 3 Gamestops here in ny and all of them had 25+ copies of LIVE 08 and zero copies of 2K. Themarketing muscle of EA can create hype but hype is only...hype... its not enough to overcome a POS like LIVE.
I like it, I have no complaints really, first time playing the 2K series...always been a Live person......but I like the gameplay and how it seems you must run a play to score, where on Live, I could always just dribble thru and lay it up...or pull up for 3 long as I released at top of jump shot......so far....I only people I can really score with are Tracy, Mike James and Luther Head...Mike James and Luther Head are deadly if given any space behind 3Pt line. newho add me if you have PS3 darapture187
Game is pretty sick, technically much improved from last year. The off ball controls are great, and there aren't as many fouls as last year's. The menus annoy me though as there really is no home screen. I still find it confusing to manage rosters, but maybe thats because I haven't played it much. My main gripe is that IMHO, the frame rate is choppy at times, especially during free throws. But you can't have it all...can you? I have it on PS3, lets play! My gamer ID is: paolojackson
