are those screenshots for the ps1? Those graphics look horrible. NFL 2K on dreamcast 5 yrs ago looks better than those...EA use your billions to hire some decent programers
Hehe...no, I think the bad quality of the screens can be blamed on the capture card and not EA...although there's plenty of other things to blame on EA.
i got a copy of 2K6 earlier today, cost me about 38 coz of employee discount at gamestop (wohoo!), but yeh, this game is sick. The graphics are a little slicker than last year's and the animations are tight. The controls are a little odd at first but you'll get used to it. I've played Live 06 and i hate the feel of it, u feel like ur gliding/skating down the floor and i dont like the cartoony look. and oh yeh, the all star unis in 2K6 are last yrs.
I picked mine up this afternoon and haven't put it down since. If you liked 2k5 (or any Inside Drive), then you'll love this year's version. All the bugs are fixed and ALOT smoother gameplay. The new shot stick is great. The teams play exactly like real life (can't freaking stop Shaq in the post). This is not 2k5 with just a couple of new features and roster update. This almost feels like a whole new game. There are so many things you can do on offense it's a little overwhelming and is going to take a while to learn. Well worth the $40 price tag and easily the best bball game I've ever played.
Thanks for the heads-up on the GameStop @ Bellaire & Gessner. Picked mine up after work and so far I'm loving it. I've been an avid 2k fan, so I've got the fundamentals down. But this game is just jam-packed with new features. Graphics are fantastic. T-Mac even has his angry snarl. Two thumbs up.
They took out that featutre from last year and, I agree, it was pretty dumb. The franchise is VERY deep now as you can spend your off days practicing or developing players in certain skills with some mini-game type drills (ala Madden training camp). I'm not sure how much, if any, you can allocate the computer to do for you so you only have to worry about playing.
sigh... my ps2 is sitting collecting dust (i broke it trying to fix it, i fixed the problem but pulled out that silver flat wire trying to put it back together) and this is real depressing.. i have every live since 03 and nba2k5... really anxious to get 2k6.... just need to fix the ps2!!! Anyone know a place to get a ps2 fixed cheap.. pm me
I like the game so far. I really haven't gotten into setting plays and stuff...just been trying out the new stuff. I like the new shot stick but I do have to master it. The new steal button is cool even though I rarely get one. The lead passing is very cool but again, I need to master it. Yao seems to get tired quickly, or shall I say calling timeouts doesn't boost his energy back up. Maybe that old trick is gone. Yao doesn't dunk as much either. T-Mac is the man. Will J ya up with 2-3 men in his face. No Dream.... One thing I don't like is how small the font is on the ratings (hard to distinguish a 9 from an 8). Maybe my TV is just crappy. Anyone else have this problem. Now time for the real fun...playing with Larry Bird.
I buy live every year. I got Live 06 today and it isnt that great. People drain the 3s in this game like it is nothing. Every person I played online was the Suns and would just shoot 3 pointers and make them most of the time. I played 5 games and they were making like 20 3 pointers a game. On the other hand, Swift is the man. He has good handles and con pull off some nasty dunks. Yao would be good if backing down in the game wasnt such a pain. It is harder to rebound. The superstar thing is cool kinda but it is pretty pointless. I will rent 2K6 and see if that is any better but I thought live would be better.
The free-throw is different, although I havn't played the 2k5 version. I like it. At first, I was thrown off by it as I was so used to the LR buttons. It's hard to explain, but it feels more like you're actually shooting a free throw. The attention to detail is great. As players are walking off for half-time, their jerseys are damp with sweat. JVG still has his comb-over, so the game is already outdated in that regard. I also like the VIP function. It feels much more user-friendlier than the ESPN version of the series. Points are accumulated so that you can build up your 'crib'. Good beats too. Best play using Rockets thus far: T-Mac banks the ball off the backboard, Yao tips it high into the air, and seemingly out of nowhere Swift jumps in for the two-handed Slam. Great way for me to get my Rockets fix until the start of the season.
if this was on PC, then I'd probably get it. But alas....it seems I'll be getting Live since it's on PC and the PC version only costs $38.
Alright, I've played it... and as has been said, in many ways this feels like an entirely new game. I agree with everyone that the shot stick is real nice, though incredibly hard to get used to. Post game is strong. Passing is SICK. Rebounding got a little glitchier IMO, but at least now you can attempt tips at will. The defense is AWESOME. I'm gonna have even more fine trying to play airtight defense this year than I did last... finally great perimeter defense actually has visible effect. Oh, and I like that they tossed biorhythms and added the simplified hot/cold. Less is more in this case. My biggest problems with this game? Dribble moves are too imprecise; it's nearly impossible to guarantee that you'll get the dribble move you were trying for with any consistency. Yeah, maybe I just haven't figured the "aggressive" button out yet, but it just seems really, really tweaky if you try to do anything but a basic crossover. The other thing is that you can get locked into animations (like post-ups), and it can be very, very difficult to get out of them for some reason. Rest assured though that the positives FAR outweigh the negatives. If you were on the fence, just get it. Trust me.
Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't going to buy it this year as I am trying to save $ but I love the 2K series so I might just have to get it (especially with all the rave reviews from you guys). I never liked Live b/c it is too unrealistic. I have a question regarding the announcers: Is the play by play and pregame announcement better than 2K5? (in 2K5, Stuart Scott would say stuff that didn't flow smoothly...he would say something about the game and then 5-7 seconds would ellapse before finishing his thoughts...also Bill walton and the other announcer would become too repetitive)
So far so good. The announcers from last year have been replaced with Kevin ("McGrady sucked the gravity out of the air!") Calabro and Kenny Smith is the color commentator. They replaced the Stuart Scott speal with the PA announcer doing the home team's starting lineup while it shows each player's face and some stats when their name is called. Pretty cool. Craig Saeger is the sideline reporter who chimes in every so often and does his "Around the Cooler" segment. So, basically, it's the TNT broadcast without any direct affiliation with the channel. As for the repetiveness, I think it is a given for any sports game.
Man, this shot stick is cool when I can get it to work correctly. I guess I just need more practice. Same goes with Isomotion. I have a problem with the passing so far though. I'll pass the ball to my designated player, and he will immediately pass it off to someone else without me pressing the button again. Is anyone else having this problem (it's making me by-pass some wide open looks)? If not then maybe my controller is just stuck on that button.
Cool! I think that is Kevin Harlin right? Anyways, sounds good. Yeah i know it is a given that they will be come repetitive after awhile but last year's only had a few sayings (most games have more)
What level are you playing on? I got the game last night and have only played one game with my roommate (Rockets vs. Mavs), on starter level, so far. The game play didn't seem as chaotic as in the past, actually more realistic IMO. I did notice that guys like Dirk and McGrady hit almost all of their 3's, so it probably has to do with the level. T-Mac's superstar feature looks cool as he looks offbalance with his legs going in different directions, but overall, it's not really useful. Tracy scored 28 while getting his fair share of boards and defensive stats. Swift was the Player of the Game scoring 28, grabbing 8 boards and playing stellar defense. Luther Head was the big suprise (subbed in for James). He simply wouldn't miss (well actually one). Head's midrange shot was automatic and he hit a couple 3s. Yao had a quiet game with 8 points and 6 boards while also playing stellar D. After one game, I like it, but feel it will grow on me as all Live's do, as I play it more.
I got 2K6 yesterday, I just couldn't resist. I am so glad I did. It is the best of the 2K series yet, and the best basketball game I have ever played. The game is smooth, and you don't need to change the "game play sliders" to do it as in the past. The commentators are much better and more realistic. The passing is great because you can't just throw passes from one side of the court to the other freely, they get "intercepted". The shot and pass sticks are good too, just need to play with it more. I like the fact that you can fire and hire GMs (I created myself so I am now the Rockets GM
I only have one problem with it... The computer's defensive match ups are stupid, last night I was playing the fourth game of the season against the Heat and Shaq was out on the perimeter guarding Mike James, James Posey was on Yao, WTH? It wasn't just a play here and there either, it happened over and over again, I wanted to bust Shaq up with Yao and I couldn't. Does anyone else see the same?
i like using the left thumbstick to break down defenders (cross-over), I'm glad they got rid of the iso-motion button...Dribble moves flow a little better than last year
