lol actually pretty much similar to our starting PG. he would have the same problems in rockets. But I like this type of PG anyway. Is he British?

He can shoot, but he has a long way to go. I wish him the best.

The best player on a less than highly-talented team in a middling conference, such as the Murray St. squad Canaan starred on the last 2+ years often is required to provide a disproportionate amount of points and shot attempts in an effort to get the most wins for his mid-level team. Star players on middling teams have always had to do this. His shot selection could be deemed poor, but he is also used to battling 2-3 opposing players every possession just to get a shot off as the obviously best player on his team.

He was asked to score more, do more, create more. But with limited talent surrounding him, even the world's best PG shot creator will only get as many assists as the talent and finishing skills of his teammates will allow.

I think Canaan has more than enough PG skills to stick in this league, and be a productive contributor for a 50+ win team this coming season even as a rookie. He has loads of skill, confidence by the boat-load, the guts to take the big shots and the drive to succeed, even without much help. Canaan will be surrounded by superbly talented players on the Rockets, for the 1st time in his career he will have a supporting cast as talented, and moreso than he is.

I see a bright future for Canaan and solid rotation minutes as soon as Morey calls him up. I think he is that good, that talented and has that much ability. Mark it down dude!!!!

Good coaches and GMs do what they believe and they don't wory about being the laughing stock. DM has been proving this over and over by ignoring the hordes on NBA circles and the talking heads at ESPN and even his buddies over at grantland that laughed at him and said his methods would not work:

    -constantly turning over the roster

    -no loyalty to non-superstar players

    -constantly playing Monte Hall

    -collecting assets

    Now who's laughing?

You think DM is going to change the way he does buisness because he is afraid of being laughed at by some self proclaimed experts that don't know any more about basketball than you or I?

Last season the San Francisco 49ers replaced a solid veteran QB (Alex Smith) and former number 1 draft pick for a little known 2nd round draft pick (Colin Kapernick) during a play-off push. All of the noted talking heads critisized and laughed at the 49ers because Alex Smith was playing well and the 49ers were winning. All Kapernick did was lead the team to the Super Bowl and it is very likely the team would not have made it with out his stellar play.

    Who's laughing now?

If....and this is a big if.... Canaan is better than Lin he will find his way into the starting rotation regardless of public perception or critisizem. Just like AB did when Rafer was traded.

Your assumption is missing the meaning of the stats you posted. This just shows who has more freedom with the ball and is meant to create in our system. Guys like Beverley, Brooks and Parsons are more playing off the ball and are supposed to take easier shots than Harden and Lin: Come off screens, take the open 3, drive after getting an open lane, etc.
You can be a very good shot creator, but if your role is reduced to playing off the ball and taking high percentage shots you will automatically have a way higher fg assisted % than a high usage player.

I did not say that a player cannot be very good or great if they don't have a low %AST number. I was just going by the standard definition of "shot creator". Players who can create their own shot stress defenses to a much higher degree than those who cannot create their own shot. They force defenses to shift defensive alignment so that help is readily available. Who is more dangerous with the ball at the 3 point line, Parsons or Harden?

Let's face it, we all want our rookies to be all stars. Who was the blond guy that was going to be the next Larry Bird? Remember when Parsons was supposed to be a training camp stiff? However, I think Cannon does have more potential than most. Context is everything. When he is required to do more, he will do more. And, a good shooter is always welcome. Bet he lights up the D league.
