It's mainly because people like to oversimplify things and create drama. They like to see things in black and white.
Bump: 2/14 Henry abbot rejoins russillo on NBA Today to discuss his Kevin Martin vs. Kobe in the clutch. Again, definitely worth a listen to hear one Of the top stat geeks.
Great breakdown. Essentially talked about how the majority 2/3rds of Kevin's baskets in the clutch were assisted but he still shot 50% while Kobe shoots less but only has like a 15% assist rate. Also the Hornets have the best clutch time offense
Great discussion. Listened to it yesterday. Basically the best go to offensive players in the clutch are ones that can pass effectively.... Therefore Kobe Bryant is one of the worst clutch players from an efficiency point of view because ball movement almost always comes to a screaching hault in crunch time for the Lakers and has been a big frustration on the part of Phil Jackson regarding Kobe. The stat they referred to really said more about Kobe then it did about Martin. Basically Martin is more "efficient" in the clutch, but you tell me who you would rather have with the ball in their hands with the game on the line.
anyone know how long Morey played basketball? through high school? i don't think the two are mutually exclusive...but most GM's in the league, I would assume, at least played some college ball. Your example, Riley, played in the NBA, as I'm sure you're aware. It would be difficult for me to call Morey a "basketball guy."
