I wonder if ESPN/ABC/TNT are involved in the negotiations with Stern on a separate deal related to the start of the season....

Meaning... If you dont have a deal, by X, we drop your contract with us from Y to Z. So I wonder if those deadlines are really truely the major factor on the date when the owners actually WANT to negotiate. Its clear right now that the owners are just stalling the conversation till the time is right for them.

I guarentee you that you have two sets of owners... Cuban//Arison vs. Gilbert/Maloofs etc. The Cubans/Buss's must have an agreement set in place with the less fortunate owners that we will give you up until this particular date to get the union to budge, and after that date, we need to get serious and move negotiations along because the Cubans/Buss's have alot to lose if they cancel this season.

-After the baseball playoffs TNT will be desperate to get their NBA back since that is their major flagship program. Espn/Abc probably could fair just fine without the NBA however and would have major power over the NBA if they decided to cut the contract in half for the upcoming season if the contract bidding went sour due to the lockout.

    ^^^This.

And I'm an NBA fan first, but I am sick of the shenanigans and the primadonna acts. They don't even care that a lot of people who work at the arenas are out of work and can't provide for their families.

Same here, but not having the NBA will hurt my grades even worse than without it.

So it's just the owners who need to get their house in order? It seems these negotiations have only shown people that's all the owners are trying to do. They own the teams, they have every right to be as profitable as they can. The players are still employees of the owners.

NBA losing a few months works for me. They are pissing me off. I have been spending the free time studying for new IT certifications and playing the crazy stock market.

I no longer think the while season will be canceled. Too many teams have too much on the line to lose a whole season. The major contributors for Dallas, LA and Boston are getting older and older. The owners of those clubs will not want to see their star age another year without achieving anything. They probably prefer a shorter season because of the old guys. Dont forget Miami, why would they want a while season wasted just after their recent acquisitions? OKC and Bulls will want to get on with business as well.

Stern and the owners will eventually cave in if the players hold on to their stance. They have much more to lose then the players do.

What we may see today in the NBA is whether David Stern will actually negotiate or is just going thru the motions to show NLRB good faith.

I doubt they reach an agreement this week. The owners want to make sure they get the best deal possible. They can't know for sure until seeing how the players react to missing game checks. I don't like it, but that is the logical negotiating tactic for them.

I don't believe they have negotiated in good faith, that is why I want them to decertify...to push them to negotiate...

To me it looks like they are trying to break the union, and force them to take a much lower deal, when revenues are way up and accounting practices are putting money into the owners pockets, while they show a loss on the books.

    Very shady.
