The owners and players each get 50% of the increase in revenue. The amount of BRI the players are guaranteed is different from the salary cap.

Player maxes are tied to the cap and the cap is tied to revenue. So player maxes WILL go up. They are capped at 25-35% of the cap. The MLE just goes up a little each year, regardless of the cap. I wonder, if the rules stay the same, if we'll have a new class of player. We seem to be getting some -- but not a lot of -- submax players that make ~ $8-12m a year, more than MLE but less than max. It seems to me like a pretty inefficient pricepoint because you're pretty much paying full value for that player while some of the players at MLE and at Max are playing at a discount. But, we might see a lot more of these kinds of players as the market has a harder time snapping to a price-point defined by cap rules.

Damn, if only one of those other parties stepped up!! Look how desperate ESPN got, this deal is strictly about money and not about professionalism or quality of the broadcast and whole journalism and presentation of the sport. Pure about the money, ughh..

Sports programming has become much more valuable in recent years because it's the only live programming many people (like me) watch.

It's all about ad dollars and those dollars crave live TV.

I get that, but the NBA should care about professionalism, how their product is presented, which people are involved and what they're saying. ESPN is amateuristic, spread lies, favour certain markets due to their connections and allow knuckleheads to present shows and write articles. I don't know how they deal with other sports, but basketball and ESPN are just a bad combo

I hear you but some businesses believe in rewarding long term partners they judge to be worthy. Because of behind-the-scenes personal relationships, etc and how the NBA perceives ESPN's broadcast quality and name-recognition, the league decided to do some research and give ESPN the right of first refusal on a ridiculously high number. For all we know, the league expected ESPN to flinch and was surprised they didn't.

Continuity is also important and switching networks is one less pain the NBA has to worry about.
