NBA to address wack shooting fouls in the off-season. Rocket Legends Harden & Olynyk faint

I know this is a running joke for us, but it is astonishing that the league and media never even mentions moving screens as a potential Point of Emphasis.

In the last game, Looney did the walking backwards thing again, which redirected Brooks route around him, on a crucial possession during MEM comeback. That backwards walking maneuver happens multiple times every game.

 

The simple problem is that the officiating close to the basket has no relation to the officiating at the 3pt line. In the paint, players are expected to go up strong and expect "incidental" contact without a foul call. At the 3pt line, if you graze someone's shoulder even after they've released the ball, it's a foul. So there is no incentive for any one to play inside. The rules should be changed so a diversity of strategies are viable. These days, the only way to win is to have at least 4 and preferably 5 3pt shooters.

 

I feel lot of these things may be fixed by just adding another full time official on the court. I'd argue its long been overdue.

 

Leaning backwards and sideways? How about these MF’ers finally address players getting a defender in the air, then just jumping into them to draw a foul?

I can't visualize how the create a written rule for this.

Unless, they make the rule "if the offensive player initiates the contact" which would be a huge major change to the game overall.

 

I wonder if they'll look at the hooking technique that Harden and Embiid use when they use their off-hand/arm to hook the defender's arm while gathering the ball.

nah he won't bc it has nothing to do being awarded free throws with gimmick shots. he'll still get those calls bc he only does that when his team is in the bonus and it is still a foul. that's part of having high iq

the league is hellbent on trying to prevent James harden from winning a ring. They don’t want him to make another all star team, or make another all nba team. Hardens personal accolades are starting to lap LeBrons buddy Dwade. Notice the league never cracked down on free throw baiting when dwade was in his prime. Dude averaged damn near 18 free throws in the 2006 finals

 

I totally understand the why(s).

My question is how do you actually write a rule that referee can follow that works.
It seems they will write a totally confusing, specific rule that no one understands and so is never called.
Or it will be too broad and affect the game in many ways they didn't anticipate.

Harden takes free throw baiting to a whole ‘nother level. Wade is like a master’s and Harden is on his 3rd PhD when it comes to drawing cheap fouls. Wade actually knew how to step up his game in the playoffs. Whereas Harden just chokes lol

 

I’m all for eliminating the hooking foul. That move is total BS and should not be rewarded with FTs. A lot of Harden’s foul calls were legit, but the hooking crap was super irritating, even as a fan of Harden.

 

mj and kobe have had seasons where they averaged more free throws per game than hardens best FTA season. And neither mj or kobe saw a dramatic( if any change) in their free throw rate in the playoffs like the league continues to do to harden year after year. I bet if harden was still in houston, the league doesnt take this drastic measure. But the nets basically broke the game and set a new team offensive rating when all 3 of the nets big 3 were healthy. The nets offensive rating when kyrie, harden and durant were on the court was a staggering 137.8( BETTER THAN ANY TANDEM OF THE WARRIORS PEAK DYNASTY YEARS). The nets would go on to set a new record for team offense rating and the nets were hardly healthy last year. A healthy nets team this year sets the wins record EASILY, this rule change is too actually give lebron and the lakers a chance at the title next year. Without this emphasis( thats mainly used to target harden) the entire league would be in trouble
