Thats true. And if the Rockets return next year with the same lineup we are in real trouble. Everyone will just sit back and watch Francis and Mobley take on 5 men.
Falk *has* to be trying to squeeze more out of us. This is what the Sonics roster will look like next year... PG-Payton, Williams SG-Barry, Maxwell SF-Borrell, Lewis, Mason, Patterson PF-Baker, Grant C-Oyediji, Stepania I dont see any empty slot for Taylor at either the SF or PF. So I definitely agree that Falk is trying to get us to give up the trade exception.
hey id just like to say for the record, so i feel better about myself, that i posted this one minute before thanos did, but after reading his i saw that he had a big capitalized title and his post explained it in much more detail then mine did, so i deleted mine. so its my scoop i got it first. go me. who cares? i do. . ------------------ "Win the game, baby!" -Rudy T in the fourth quarter of game 4 of the 1995 NBA Finals
I think Taylor doesn't care that Seattle won't be under the cap next year, because he thinks only of himself and is not team oriented at all. I don't think he would feel one iota of gratitude or loyalty to whatever team he does sign with. He doesn't seem to have any work ethic, and all these lame excuses about "how could he be motivated playing for the Clippers" are just that, LAME EXCUSES. Someone posted "why would Seattle want him for just one year to take away development time from some of their other young players?" Why would the Rockets want to do that. It is naive to think he won't go to the highest bidder next year. I wouldn't be at all disappionted if he signs with Seattle. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Moe (edited August 11, 2000).]
Do you seriously believe that signing with Seattle will make him look that much better? Hell, I didn't see anyone running to sign John Salley after he won the title with the Lakers last year. Granted, Mo is young and talented, but the situation is more similar than you would think. How much do you see Taylor doing with a team stacked with Power Forwards and where he won't even start? And who even said the Sonics will have the better record next year? They sure didn't look all too impressive last year and if you ask me they're the most likely to lose a playoff spot next season (which I hope will be taken by our own Rockets). ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Man, hangover, you're not only a strange guy in person, but you're even a much stranger guy on the internet. ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
Do we really want a guy who is simply using the team for a year to try and get more $ next season? Why???? We have great team harmony now. How will having a guy like Taylor, who will be obsessed with personal stats, help things? It's not like he'd put us over the top or anything... ------------------
if someone plays their heart out, even if its merely for getting a big contract the next season, thats ok. as long as he's not too selfish and he doesn't take a million shots a game. but if the only reason he plays hard is because he is motivated my money, who cares. the point is he'll play hard. ------------------ "Win the game, baby!" -Rudy T in the fourth quarter of game 4 of the 1995 NBA Finals
As far as Falk, wouldn't you want him negotiating for you if you were looking for a new employer? I know it's frustrating to the fans, but he's just doing his job & as long as Seattle plays along with him, he'll keep leading the Rockets on. Be mad at Seattle. I do believe that the Rockets are Taylor's only option now & he will sign with us or agree to a sign & trade to us. They are just trying to get every penny that they can. It's just business. So, take a deep breath & try to relax. After all, He's the one out of work. If you've ever been out of work with no income, then you know Taylor is more worried about this deal than us. ------------------
I hate to put a dampner on things, but Mo could probably log significant minutes as a PF in the sonics system for next year: PG-Payton, Williams SG-Barry, Maxwell SF-Borrell, Lewis, Mason, Patterson PF-Taylor C-Baker, Grant, Oyediji, Stepania The sonics played Grant at C last season, and Baker played mostly PF. Now I'm not sure if Baker could log minutes as a C, but he's definitely got the size and skills. They might be looking to decrease his minutes a bit and see if he can overcome his depression - if Taylor plays 30 minutes as a PF that leaves 18 there for Vin and another 10 or so at C might be enough for him. Oyediji and Stepania might not play much this year (gaining experience) so that leaves the Sonics with 2 real big man options in Baker and the aging Grant. I'm thinking they might like to get Taylor and work out lineups after that.... ... of course I hope that doesn't happen - and it really doesn't make sense for the sonics, but you never know.... ------------------
Here is what I have scrapped up about the Taylor situation: [*]Forget the sign and trade, he wants to be a free agent next season. Why Seattle? [*]Wally Walker gets along real well with Falk and almost engineered a trading deadline deal to land Taylor last season. [*]No state income tax. [*]Believe it or not, Seattle can be a contender. Where does he fit? [*]At PF in a normal line-up and at SF in a taller line-up. Grant, Baker, and Taylor would be the primary recipients of playing time at the 4 and 5. With Taylor, Seattle could also put out a tall line-up of Payton and Lewis at the guards, Taylor and Baker at the forwards, and Grant at center. [*]Maxwell, Patteron, and possibly Grant, Foster, and Barry are on the trading block. The word is that there will be a deal in the next week or so. ------------------
