I worked for a sports Phreak from St. Louis in 1992. He told us a story (he swore was true) about Mad Max when he played for San Antonio spurs in 1986 or 1987. The dude telling us the story had small yellow teeth and formed a little white foam at the corners of his mouth when talking. The story goes: Max was walking in a parking garage after a game-special area - player only parking. Two guys approached armed with 1 pistol to rob him. When Max refused to give them his gold chain, watch, wallet, etc.- the dude with the gun swung it at Max's head. Max dodged, took the gun away from him, threw the gun away-breaking a car window. He pounded the guy -breaking face bones. He chased the other guy 2 blocks and game him a hospital style whipping. Someone called the cops- Max got away, but was recognized by someone. He was sued by one of these guys. The Spurs org. padi the guy off with more than 400k. I cannot document this because the man told us the Spurs paid the guy off to settle and for confidentiality. I do not know if this story is true-but it gives Mad Max some street cred. I would put my money on Max. I would put my money on Charles Oakley to man handle Anthony Mason in a fight. They Say that Oak " just don't give a fock"-and in my opinion that wins fights.
