Anyone else notice they have three kids whose names all begin with K ans one of their family activities is building bonfires? Kevin Martin is clearly funding a sleeper cell of a racist militia.

Did you notice "Kevin" also starts with "K"? :)
More Martin news, he's playing in a local 3-on-3 tournament:

Video from his return home 2 years ago, didn't play last season due to injury:

In a league where players talk about lynching Larry Brown and get arrested for guns and drug charges, it's nice to see a positive role model in the NBA.

One of my best friends goes to a Tri-Valley High School and witnessed the whole thing. Now she can stop hating the Rockets. :)

We've got a good group of guys here. Nothing like the old Jailblazers.

    I like that.

Much respect to giving back. We should all give back each day in our own way.

This team is filled with players always willing to give back. Yao Ming gave a lot back to his home place too!

I debated on whether I should bring this up here.. but people often make this response when the Nuggets are mentioned. Why are people here inclined to defend the character of the Nuggets (Melo, JR, Kenyon...)? More importantly, why is the first line of defense "tattoos aren't bad!"

I don't believe we're the only team with good guys on it, btw.

All school buses should have seat belts and possibly air bags on the ceiling in the event of a rollover. In an ideal world it would be best to have all kids wear seat belts all the time as seat belts help to save lives. However, that becomes very challenging as the bus driver has to concentrate on driving unless there is a bus aide and there are quite a few adults and parents who don't always wear seat belts in their own family cars.

Why did he pay for the funeral? I didn't understand that. Why was this specific death important to him. Not saying it is not a great gesture, but people die all the time.

The boy lived near his hometown, so that's part of the reason why. Martin is from Zanesville, Ohio. If you click on the link, it goes to the Zanesville Times website. They boy was from a neighboring small town called Frazeysburg.

I used to be a big time advocate for school bus seat belts. I was going to write a college application paper on it, and then discovered some facts about it that made me not so sure about my view. What I like about the idea is that not only would the kids be restrained in there seats to avoid flying around, but they would be in their seats to not distract the bus driver, also keeping them safe. I remember my bus drivers having to yell sit down & also break up fights on the bus- how distracting that is while driving. Having kids not running around when the bus is moving would be helpful to keep the bus drivers concentration on the road, preventing accidents.

Some tests have shown that having a lap belt for the kids provides a greater chance to injuries to the kids' heads. Their lower torso will be held in place, but greater chance to injuries to the head. Without a seatbelt, their whole body absorbs the shock.
School districts use the argument of "compartmentalization". School bus seats have become closer together, taller, and more firm then before (it's unbelievable how uncomfortable bus seats are these days). It is supposed to help keep kids in place (in their compartments) and absorb shock.
Some also argue that the kids may use the seat belts to strangle or hurt one another.
What really scares me, is when I think of the movie Simon Birch. What if those kids on the school bus were wearing seat belts while the bus was sinking in the water? That could have caused some complications, especially if one of the kids was unconscious.
just tried to give both sides. I definitely think some more research needs to go into this topic.
