A few weeks of training camp, maybe just two, a shortened regular season, and then the playoffs, possibly on an accelerated schedule.
It does depend on the virus. Almost all decisions that will be made concerning activities are going to depend on the virus. If we see an increase in hospitalizations and deaths with the country starting to open up, then the league will not be able to proceed. If we see the status quo or a decrease with the country relaxing stay at home orders, then the league can finish the season if they are inclined to do so. We like to believe that we have control over the world around us, but in this case we only have so much power. On a side note, there is a split between players and owners about whether the season should continue, and the longer that a decision isn't made the more we will see a deeper divide. I am sure people like LeBron and the Bucks and some of the Clippers do want the season to be completed. However there are also a lot of players and owners that really would rather just wait for next season.
I personally think if they cannot finish the regular season properly then a play-offs should not happen, period.
As I said, yes, but to differing degrees. It is possible to conduct, for example, continuous testing of the players; it is not possible to do so for the fans. Do you disagree? Yes, if that is actually the case, it will be out of the league's hands, as the decision will be made for them (which I believe is what you were saying). Agree. But they will likely have to make a decision on whether they proceed without fans, or not...as opening stadiums up will likely be one of the very last things to happen. True, but irrelevant to my response. I was only talking about things that are actually under the league's or the player's control. This is true, and will likely make any discussions/decisions on this quite interesting. PS: I don't think we're disagreeing here, just stating the same things differently.
Try https://help.nba.com/app/ContactUs or Email nbaappsupport@turner.com Here was their reply and the money already came through: “Thank you for contacting NBA Digital Support. We are here to assist you. The NBA has suspended gameplay until further notice due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. At this time, we are evaluating the impact to your League Pass subscriptions and will provide more information as soon as we can. The games are delayed for 30 days or until further notice (subject to change). In line with your refund request, we have processed a 15% refund for your subscription, please allow 3-5 business days for the refund to be returned to your account. You can still access your subscription until the end of the billing period and you can enjoy watching the archived games. Furthermore, NBA TV is not impacted by this hiatus, only NBA League Pass. NBA TV is a simulcast of a cable channel and will include analysis and news coverage of the league during its suspension and therefore is not impacted by season’s suspension. We appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation in this matter.”
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, as my late mother used to say. Thanks for the heads-up!
the League and the Union PA has agreed to 25% paycut if reason do not start...which is why most Owners do not want the season to start again. Ain't no way to make up that 25% revenue when you can't generate income from Fans/Concession etc. Only reason for owners to keep playing is for the TV contract and marketing contracts
Dang...I wonder if I should contact NBA India to get a discount... I mean...I am paying $9 for an entire year of NBA India, WITHOUT any blackout since I'm "cough cough cough" in INDIA
Thanks, TFW. What happens with the TV contract, though? It would seem that they would miss that money more than the gate/concessions...
Folks generally takes asterisks the wrong way. It’s just an indicator that there was something different that needs to be noted. It’s not necessarily disparaging. In this case there will definitely be an asterisk. Still a legit title. Unless the Mavericks win then it definitely doesn’t count.
No person can make that kind of guarantee (Confidence that NBA commissioner Adam Silver won't allow games to be played if safety would be compromised). Begs the question of the state of mind for whomever might believe they can.
