Bimathug has outlined this before in a thread, but I can understand and see where solomon is coming from. If brooks is the guy adelman really wants and feels is the best, lowry will get moved. It doesn't make any sense to have 2 pg's the same age. Lowry is going to want his chance to start and brooks will probably demand more minutes with his play. Scola is the other guy that will probably be replaced. He deserves to be a haslem type of contract, but after the season, if the rockets target is amare or bosh, that's the end of scola because landry can now be the backup in that rotation off the bench. That's why I think a trade with NJ makes sense for right now and in the future. Boone and Jarvis hayes for cook and chuck hayes. We get a sg and c and they get another 3.5m off the books. Also, pawning off Battier for someone like jordan could help clear even more space on the cap. Getting rid of shane would also net the team 6m. After the season, the team would have more than the 25m in cap space. I'm sure bimathug will not agree, but we can always have the conversation.

Bimathug aka capologist, once the richardson for randolph trade goes through, can't the rocket pawn battier to the clippers for a lower contract like Deandre Jordan?

Even after the Richardson-for-Randolph swap is made, the Clippers will not have any cap room left of consequence. For purposes of trades, they essentially have no cap room.

By my calculations, the Clippers currently have a total team salary (for salary cap determination purposes) of about $57.14M, which includes the 10 players under contract, the cap hold for Steve Novak, and the unsigned rookie scale salary for Blake Griffin.

With the salary cap now set at $57.7M, this gives the Clippers a grand total of $560,000 of salary cap room. And this room likely goes away once Blake Griffin officially signs his contract (since he will likely receive the customary 20% maximum permitted raise over his rookie scale salary slot). The Clippers could pull their qualifying offer for Novak, but that would only generate about another $1.1M in salary cap room.

To answer your question, no, a Battier for Jordan trade straight-up would not work under the salary cap.

Quite frankly Jerome, after reading your analysis of the Rockets' finances, it cracks me up that you take yourself seriously.

Honestly, if I see an article was written by Jerome Solomon, I do one of 2 things:
    1. Don't read it
    or
    2. Prepare to see bold statements based on nothing more than trying to get a rise out of readers, which he accomplishes very well.
