But really, Chuck needs to leave. I bet he gets sick of playing for the 9th seed every season. Go to a contender like Boston and they'll love him. The dudes not young anymore...wasting time in Houston should be the worst thing that can happen to his career progression right now. In fact, ANY contender would LOVE this guy. Instead of being a stop-gap player who may be squeezed out completely once a legit centre like Jordan or Chandler or even Nene comes here, this guy will go back to rotting on the bench. Instead of that he might as well go play a 20 minute back up role where he can win night-in and night-out and knows his role and focus exactly.
I'm fine with Nene or Chandler assuming that we re-sign Hayes. We would be in a worse spot than last year if our center went down with injury.
At this point, I'd rather find a team that would give us a first round pick and a tpe for Scola if we can retain Chuck and add a big center like Nene. IMO a big man rotation of Patterson, Chuck, and Nene is a contender big man rotation.
When a guy pours his heart out on the court, is a class act of a human being and actually gets you Ws, you owe it to him to give him a face-to-face and tell him where he stands. Instead, Morey is off chasing players that don't want to be here (who arguably will not make the team better than Chuck does if they do come here) while the the Chuck Wagon waits and wonders why the franchise he has given his all to can't even talk to him like a man.
They offered him a full raise contract in June, chuck said no. This is a business, and Morey is doing what is right by the franchise, not by what passionate fans like yourself or myself think, he is doing his job. He is not going to tell Chuck anything, that would be poor negotiating, he is trying to target more important players first, that is the way it goes in the NBA, Chuck is a big boy he knows it. He knows where he stands, the team is trying to find a true center, and if they can't get one, he is the fall back plan, but they will not overpay for him, and may actually want him to go but don't want to say it out loud due to what you see in this thread. DD
Morey made his offer to Chuck before the lockout. Chuck didn't take it and dicided to seek other offers. Morey let him know where he stands.
Excellent points. I was not even aware that a deal had been extended to him before the lockout. Morey, you may keep your job.
I don't think Chuck will command that much from other teams, at least if their fans have anything to say about, we get ripped on a lot for having a center who's the size of a small forward.
