If the entire season didn't count, ORL would be Top 5 based on last week. Its wins are FAR more impressive than HOU barely squeaking by 2 scrubs and a team plying 2nd night of a B2B.
Yeah the starting point is the previous ranking. The previous ranking is what the team earned to that point of the entire season. Bad teams don't jump 20 spots because they played a great week. And good teams don't drop 20 because they played poorly.
Beating 2 top teams doesn't immediately make you a top team. What it does is rocket the ranking higher relative to the previous week. Hence it was one of 3 High Jumps of the Week from #27 to #23. If they could beat another 2 top teams this week they might climb again to around #19. Yes we did beat mediocre teams but we beat 5 of them but remember we were #7 the week before so we ended up #3. The bottom line is no matter how impressive you had been last week. If you were at the bottom you can't get to the top immediately.
