So he has lateral quickness problems? How is he going to beat his man off the dribble if he can't get by him or jump over him?

    Is he a 3 or a 4?

    Morey Supporter. Not a Moreyite.

Go re-read my post about the various factions of Rockets fans on this BBS when it comes to Morey.

    (Oh, yeah . . . and  )

There are 'tweeners and there are 'tweeners.

Terry Cummings was a 'tweener, and used his size and bulk as a mismatch when he played the 3 and his quickness and athleticism as a mismatch when he played the 4.

Charles Barkley was another 'tweener. He'd take big guys outside and zip around them, and then post up the smalls. I remember reading an article in some magazine back in the day suggesting that the Sixers should be playing Barkley as a 2 guard. He probably could have pulled it off. Yes, Barkley had size problems defending 4's and quickness problems defending 3's. But his coaches found ways to scheme around it as much as possible. He took advantage of the mismatches in his favor, and found ways to minimize the ones that didn't favor him.

(For the sake of these examples, I'm talking about both players' first five or so years in the league).

Using SA to judge the Morris pick is pretty faulty logic since it assumes several things.

    1. You assume SA is better at scouting than we are. Perhaps? Perhaps not. But certainly this isn't SA vs Clippers scouting staff.
    2. You assume SA would've picked Leonard at 13 if they went before us. Perhaps they would've, perhaps not. But you can't tell since they picked after us.
    2. You assume both teams seek the same thing. But they don't. SA still wants to compete with Tim Duncan. Houston is in full rebuilding mode. Leonard is a better role player who can fit into a playoff team immediately. Morris is a more an all-rounder but won't have many opportunities with Duncan, Manu, and Parker.

Leonard is a 3 on defense, and a bad 4 on offense. Perhaps he can develop his shot. Perhaps not. But for a team that needs a star more than a ready-to-contribute role player, I definitely see better odds with Morris than Leonard.

I'm not saying Morey made the right choice. But logically speaking, Morris makes a lot more sense for this team.

With a full starting job, CBud will be a 15 ppg game scorer for a long time... Even though he doesn't play much defense, that is a complete steal by Daryl.

(I wonder If Rick Adelman will be wanting some Rockets like Bud in Minny...)

Bud for Daryl Morey's guy Anthony Randolph? Vucevic perhaps?

Rockets taking Morris over Leonard was further validated when the Rockets(a team with a pretty damn good draft record) jumped at the chance to take Morris over Leonard. San Antonio never had a choice. ;)

Well said. Please keep in mind that the San Antonio thing was just a "for good measure" reference. I actually think Morey's draft record is great on its own merit.

I think he can be an NBA 3, but I honestly am not sure he can beat out Chase for the job. I saw a lot of him at KU and Chase is faster, more athletic, a better ball-handler on the break and in traffic, quicker shooter, and a better finisher. Marcus has his work cut out for him.

Sorry, I recalled him as being a 4. I am obviously quite wrong. :( I apologize for the inaccurate opinion there!

I agree. But 3 things that MM has over Chase is that he can post up, play physical down low, and grab boards. Morris can separate and create a shot for himself. If he can translate this into the nba, he will be a great pick up.

He also plays D with far more consistency than I ever seen from Chase.

Actually Marcus tested a tad bit faster then Chase at the predraft camp.

    Marcus Morris - 3/4 Courtsprint - 3.15

    Chase Budinger - 3/4 Courtsprint - 3.24

Pre-draft measurements are pretty much worthless.

wasnt landry labeled as a sf/pf tweener? if he develops into a pf i would imagine that he would be a landry type where he would be good on offense but sucks at rebounding. im hoping that he can play the 3 but im afraid hes probably gonna be a 4

Landry sucked at rebounding because he had terrible positioning.

I remember a game where McGrady was talking/yelling at Landry and pointing towards the basket, and Landry seemed upset but responded with a good number of rebounds afterward.

Landry easily has the strength, speed, athleticism to overcome any size disadvantage, he just never got in position for the rebound.

Here, let me sum up their analysis: Marcus Morris is a legit 3 who has been playing the 4 position.

Pick and pop? Quickness? Range? Good defense except for post defense? Sounds like a great 3 to me.

    Just listen to him:
