I don't know if your question's been answered, but I heard the reason why they don't make yearly teams like Madden does is because in football, they're wearing pads and helmets, so they can make generic forms and player models. In basketball, they'd have to individually sculpt each player's features, etc, to make it look like the player. That would be a lot of work for little appreciation/payoff.
All i have to say is that every year the 2K series gets a better rating than live and every year it is 10 times better than live. So if you want a real basketball game that is pretty realistic you should go for the 2k series.
why would espn not have the new unis when live does? the only time i've heard they won't was from this thread but i'm guessing that was just pulled from nowhere. my bet is that both games received mockups of the unis from the rockets or whoever and will have them in the game. i mean crap even nba jam has the new unis.
Sega stop making sports games for the lack of sales in last year's version. Found this post in a thread with the sales figures from last year's series of sports games. http://dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=269635&highlight=Sega+Sports
Whoops, I should confirm saying that they stopped making sports games for the GAMECUBE. Seems like the post above made it sound like I they are not making sports games period. Also, side note, Visual Concepts, the team that makes the Sega Sports games, used to make EA Games back in the mid 90's, which explains why it EA went downhill when they teamed up with Sega in '99.
http://www.espnvideogames.com/nba/ Scroll down a bit. The new jerseys are without a doubt in the ESPN game. This is gonna be sweet.
I think I'll rent both NBA Live 2004 and 2K4 to see which is better, and I'll buy that one. This year it looks as though they are going to be real close, closer than they've ever been. Having said that, if EA Sports screws this game up, I'm never going back.
save the 5 bucks. there's maybe one or two people tops that would recommend Live over 2K here. EA can't do sports anymore, even Madden can't beat them.
You're kidding, right? In the basketball/football region, only bball has the strongest competition, and as you can tell from this thread it's still just a crapshoot. Renting is a good idea. Live was once the greatest bball sim out there. It isn't anymore, but you never know what could happen...
I like the fast paced action of the Live series compared to the 2K series. True, the Live series can take things overboard, like blocked shots and dunking, but that is what makes the game fun when playing with friends. Something about the feel of 2K I just don't like.
I really enjoy playing a entire seaon with one player. However, I like the person to usually be a legend - Bird or Magic - and have all the other legends in the game as well. I like to run a draft with both current players and past greats. I then choose my player (usually Bird) and run throught a season. I've only ever gotten Live, so 2K have this ability?
EA makes good football games, and SEGA makes better basketball games...thats all there is too it. I read 3 different reviews within the past week. All of them have better ratings on ESPN OVER EALIVE
I love doing that too, but 2k3 wouldn't let you unlock the legends (as far as I know), so you have to create any that you want to use. Hopefully 2k4 will let you use them in franchise.
www.easports.com/games/nbalive2004/ has a countdown of the release. When I want to know stuff about a product, I just go to the site of the company that makes it, and bam, there it is, the info. I hope they do away with the robotic movements, cuz I tell xcharged all the time that this is the reason why I don't buy NBA LIVE at all... I will do what getsmartnow said he will do.
