We could do a 3-way trade with Cleveland; we receive Smith, Cleveland gets Asik, and Atlanta gets a future draft pick from the Cavs. Everyone's happy.

I'm pretty sure the Rockets won't. Morey clearly doesn't give a damn about pissing off other front offices. And neither do other teams, especially not the Lakers.

I don't think it has much to do with other teams' perceptions. If it benefits the Rockets and makes them better, you can bet Morey will do it.

Not sure if DM the GM will or not but he does work in a very cloistered society. These 30 GMs/owners/franchises live in a symbiotic dome, closed to outsiders.

There is no advantage to the player in the new CBA to force an SnT for additional revenue (see: LBJ/Riles/Gilbert), but...

Of course, but the bolded does not appear to be the case in a S&T with LA. We have room to sign him and if we are going to trade current players then giving them away for nothing does not make us better.

I think Cubes would jump all over Asik. Just my 2 cents for the vibe I get living in Dallas. I think Cuban will actually go after Andrew Bynum but Asik would look very good with Dirk at the 4, Matrix at the 3 and Colderon at the 1. I think Cuban would look for a defensive minded 2, maybe someone like Corey Brewer.

    Asik
    Dirk
    Marion
    Brewer
    Calderon

That starting 5 would be very competitive as long as Dirk is healthy. Short term contract and Dirk already saying he will take a pay cut next season would keep Cuban relevant in the free agent market for the next couple of years.

Having typed all of that, I hope DM refuses to do anything to help the Mavs... i.e. I can't stand the damn Mav's!! But I will be attending at least 2 Maverick home games this season. :)

    Teague-RFA, Schroeder-draft, Mack-unguarateed
    Williams, Stevenson, Jenkins, Cunninhgam
    Korver, Carroll
    Millsap, Scott-unguaranteed
    Horford, Nogueira-draft, Muscala-draft

Looking at the Hawks roster/signings do they even want a S&T with the Rockets?

If they see Schroeder as their future starting PG maybe they'd like Lin's 2 year contract instead of giving Teague a long term deal?

If it were Dallas or any team with the cap space to absorb Asik, how does a 3 way trade work? Dallas get Asik and gives up say a 1st and 2nd? Those picks go to ATL and Smith goes to Houston?

Not sure how the S&T works with 3 teams and with one or more over the cap.....

Well, they only have 2 quality big men. Asik would help a lot. They could have a 3 man rotation with always two of them on the field at the same time (Horford switching between PF and C) and each guy averaging around 32 minutes - Millsap could even play a couple of minutes at the 3 to increase that number.

I am sure they would like to have Asik - and it nets them more than just letting Smith walk.

Can the Mavs sign Josh smith just to trade him to us?? Or do they no longer have the capspace for it??

Omer Asik + Jeremy lin for J Smoove and Vince Carter? Nice veteran prescence and solid role player.

can only SnT with the previous team, but could maybe do a 3 team deal, which is what I see us doing if we get smith

This is simply not true. Quit portraying Lin as some sort of mental midget wimp that folds under pressure. He's not. He played under the brightest lights and shined. He'd be a problem for the Heat to have to deal with.

All that being said, the reason to trade Lin is because he is not going to be used to his full capacity playing third fiddle to Dwight and James. And he's making too much money to just be a spot-up shooter on the wing. You trade him to create more flexibility to acquire pieces that fit better around Dwight/Harden.

Looks like the Hawks won't be after Asik?

    _______________

The Hawks are the "most likely" to make a big offer to restricted free agent Nikola Pekovic, according to Jerry Zgoda.

The Hawks had the space to bring on Howard and they also did an excellent job in getting Paul Millsap for just $19 million over two years. A frontcourt trio of Pek, Millsap and Al Horford is a formidable one and Pek should received an offer sheet worth signing soon.
